Hey I have an odd problem with my Asus G1S that I can't figure out. I reinstalled Vista the other day via the recovery disk (I like to format every so often to keep things running smoothly) and after installing everything, I get constant stutters / pauses. This is occuring in Vista 32bit. If I move my mouse around, it will freeze every few seconds for 1/4th of a second. Same with video playback (even non hd), audio, everything. It's almost unnoticable until I watch a video or playback music. Even typing in notepad, my system "freezes" for a 1/4th of a second. It's not random, it happens every couple seconds the same way. I've tried multiple video drivers off laptopvideo2go, my system is not overheating, so I'm at a loss as to what could be causing this. Just to add, I've formatted & reinstalled Vista before and this has never been an issue. Also I removed all Asus software. I'm aware of the stuttering issue this laptop has with games/overheating, and this is NOT the same issue. My problem is occuring in the windows environment even when idle. I have RMClock installed disabled the throttling, as well. ANY ideas as to what could be causing this?

Forgot to add I just flashed my BIOS to the 300 version prior to formatting & reinstalling Vista. Reason was because I just upgraded from 2gb to 4gb of RAM and read the laptop needed a BIOS update to utilize it properly. Note the RAM is not faulty, I've had it tested in another notebook and prior to the BIOS flash I didn't experience any stutters.

A basis to start may be to boot into safe mode and see if you have any stuttering issues. If not, then boot up into a minimal app/service mode and see how that is. It could be a driver or such, as you have stated. I would revert to the latest Asus OEM driver. You will have to do some legwork for the most current one, but install that and then see. Sorry to be vague, but this will help to narrow down possible culprits.

Well, for anyone who had/has this problem I think it's pretty isolated. I figured out the cause. When I flashed my BIOS to the new version, there's an option in the BIOS called SATA enhanced or SATA compatible. The description says to use SATA compatible for xp/2k. For some reason, my BIOS had selected (or maybe it was all along, but the BIOS update changed something.. who knows) SATA Compatible mode. I then installed Vista. Constant stutters. So I load up the BIOS and notice this setting, and change it to enhanced. Then I try and load Vista again. Immediately when the Vista logo and loading bar appeared, I got a bluescreen that flashed & rebooted my machine. Couldn't make out what the bsod said since it wasn't on the screen for more than a milisecond. So, I reinstalled Vista - this time with SATA Enhanced mode ENABLED. I found it odd I had to reinstall the entire OS because of a setting in the BIOS.. shouldn't changing the setting remedy the problem? *shrug*

Everything works now, extremely smoothly, no stutters! Hopefully if anyone else has this issue they can find the solution here.. it was driving me crazy for a day and I could not find any solutions on the net.. thanks for the suggestions as well. Booting into safe mode made me think it had something to do with my harddrive settings because my eSATA HD would act very strangely - pausing for minutes at a time, sometimes freezing the system, etc. It wasn't doing this in a normal startup of Vista. Just the stutter would occur with or without the eSATA HD plugged in.
