I just received my new G1S but there is one issue which I just can't believe Asus didn't get right:

    The volume keys don't work.

If you press Fn+F11 or Fn+F12 to either increase or decrease volume as stated in the manual, it simply doesn't work.

It does work on XP though...oddly enough, Asus hasn't seem to updated the driver for Vista yet.

Is there any way to regulate volume using a hotkey? Like a program, maybe.

I searched and many of them only work on XP. Anyone for Vista?

    Thanks

Are the other hotkeys working? The brightness up/down, lcd on/off, standby etc.

If not, you might have a problem with the ATK driver/utility.

I'm asking because I'm pretty sure other people have not complained about this. And they would've for sure if it hadn't worked.

OK, checked up and I have ATK Generic Driver & ATK Media Installed.

on Asus's website, there is the utility called 'keyboard device filter utility'...

Which I installed but haven't got a clue what it actually does.

Oh, and Power4Gear doesn't seem to work either on mine, I installed it from Asus's website but it when I press the button on my laptop, it does nothing...

    Help..

Try reinstalling the ATK drivers and utility.

Edit: Also, how did you install Vista? Did you try to do it using the recovery DVD provided with the computer? I would suggest that if you did not; that should provide a working driver setup.

No, I just installed it from my own Vista...

I did reinstall ATK driver and media but it still doesn't work...

    Any suggestions?

Try the recovery DVD (if youre willing to do so). You might have done something wrong during the driver installation.

Ok, I have used the support and installed this so called 'ATK Hotkey' utility and volume control finally works! thanks!

    But..

I still have a few issues left with this laptop...

    1) Power4Gear button doesn't work even though I have installed it...does it work on yours?

    2) What is this e-mail check utility? Apparently it is used to blink the LED in case a mail arrive but does it work with Windows live messenger?

    3) How can you make the media button on the front to launch WMP instead of Media center (I tried setting WMP to default in vista but it refuses to do so)?

    4) Is this Asus Splendid utility really worth installing? I installed it but pressing Fn+C does nothing...(which according to the manual, cycles through the different modes).

If the above issues are solved, I would be a happy G1S owner... :)

You sure your not confusing the keys not working to just very low volume? I returned mine because the volume at max was so low it sounded like a whisper.

    2. AFAIK only with Outlook. There is an extension for Thunderbird, tried it, didn't work.
    3. See thread "configure g1s hot buttons" or smth similar, there might be a solution there.
    4. Try cycling manually (menu options) -- I suppose there is such a thing. Try the menus and see if the Splendid helps you in any way. Usually the Fn options are on the F keys; isn't this the case also with the Splendid?

No, volume is fine and that problem is sorted...I do have some other issues above though...

Sorry to have so many questions but Asus really does put loads of extras into their laptops...

I was just shocked by the amount of bloatware when I first got it...

Just checked out the thread you mentioned and there doesn't seem to be a way of setting WMP to launch isntead of Media Center...

I tried setting WMP as my default player as the poster in that thread mentioned but Windows keeps on changing it back to 'Use my current media player', which is basically Media Center...

    Oh, and what about Power4Gear?
