Hey, I bought a Asus G1S, had if for sometime and wanted to install XP on it. I managed to get that done quite problem free. All drivers and stuff installed, Altought the Graphic driver was abit hectic.. So I got a driver from laptopvideo2go.com which seemed to work quite good.

My problem occurs when I play games, Like when I play World of Warcraft everything might be okey, frames on 60 and stabile. but suddenly out of no where the frames dropp to 2-3 fps and everything laggs like hell. this lasts for about 6-10 secs, then it jumps back up to 60 fps.

This happens randoms. It can happen every 20 seconds, or like 1 time each day. and it makes it unplayable. This does not only happen on WoW, but also low demanding games like CS. 1.6 and even warcraft III at some points. but not as frequent as on WoW.

Please help me to sort this out! I really dont want to go back to Vista

    Hugs and Kisses in advance!

yea, I've tried to install loads of drives, but very few work, and they all seem to have this problem, the problem follows even when I change drivers.. even for 3 different drivers : /

try to reformat your laptop. if it still persist, you might have a lemon video card

Lots if issues with reported down-up fps drops in the G1 with XP, going back to last summer at least if you search here.

Seems to be related to gpu driver being used - perhaps trying some other Forceware drivers might help instead. You might get some hints from the folks over in the G1 owner's lounge too.

EDIT: EBE beat me to it with a better link. rats.

***EDIT***: Do you think It would help by buying a cooling pad tohave under the computer?

You can do a search for the G1S GPU throttling down due to heat, for proposed solutions... that link was just something I found quickly, I'm not sure that's the definitive solution (in fact I don't think there is one)

Research a bit more, determine first if you're suffering from that problem or something else; if yes, see what other people have done and what might be best for you.

Run HWmonitor when you play WOW. It will show your gpu temperature at its peak during the game. When your fps drops down to 2-3, tab out and look at your GPU temp. try that and get back to us. Give us all of your temps at max.

I ran the HWmonitor when I played WoW like you said. and Checked the GPU temperature when the frame lagg started, and I got theese numbers
    102
    104
    106
    103

Then I put an icepack under the computer and it seemed to cool down abit and stayed at 90-95. and now it dident come any frame lagg at all. I dont know if thats a coincedence or not. what you think? btw are over 100 high temperature? Im not familier with the numbers

It is not a coincidence. You are suffering from the well-known problem I mentioned. Please, do the research that I mentioned on this throttling problem.

ye, I did check out that link. altough I dont really want to mess with settings and stuff as Im not really good at things like this :)

but Im wondering that if I can buy a cooling pad like this: http://www.microplex.no/product.aspx?pid=ZMNC2000S&mcat=c535
you think that will also take care of my problems? :)

I don't mean just that link, there is a lot of info here in the forums, and that link does not necessarily offer the best info. You will also find experience from people that bought cooling pads, very likely.

    Just search e.g.,
    "G1S throttling"
    or "G1S stuttering"
    or "G1S GPU" even

using the google box in the top-right side.

if you're still under warranty, call it in. if not, do the cooling mods they help out alot. What i did was run rmclock and underclocked my cpu during battery.
I play CS:S. so i used riva turner to underclock my gpu. We're both playing a game that isnt that graphic intensive so all i did was lower my gpu clocks to 350 or so. In the end my computer produces less heat like around 75C with the mods and the underclocking.

Alright, I've done some searching around the forum, and around on other places and I've seen several people complaining about the very same problem I seem to have. altough I dont see any sort of solution to this problem :(

jpham, Im not sure how to underclock or overclock and I really dont want to do something stupid so I think il pass on that :p

I'd also really like to avoid getting a cooling pad as I bought a laptop not a fancy looking desktop :p

altough the wierd thing is that, I ran this computer with Windows Vista for about 1 year, and never had this problem except from low preformance overall, but when I installed XP the preformance became great, but this problem occured! why? and .. meh!

Maybe differences between ACPI or GPU drivers? I don't know. You could dual-boot with Vista and use if for gaming...

I remember somebody was running folding@home while gaming so that the CPU got hot and the fan runs full blast, to cool the GPU as well. (because the problem happens due to the fact that only the CPU temp controls the fan) But that's a pretty extreme solution...
