Anyone ever have their G1S just not do anything after a restart?

I just got mine today and started my windows update, after the update I hit the restart now button. The system shut down, then just sat on a blank screen. The fans were running, and the little message screen was on, but nothing was happening.

I waited a couple min, then held the power button to shut it down. Hit the power again about 30 sec later, same thing, fans on, message screen on, but no POST or HDD activity.

I shut it down again, waited about 5 min, and on the next attempt to start up, everything was normal.

But again, I updated a driver, was prompted to restart, and after shutdown was staring at a blank screen.

Anyone seen this before? I don't want to go through a OS re-install to see the same thing happen again.

Try checking the event logs for any anomalies or errors.

Nothing in the logs out of place, is it even possible that this is a heat problem, even though I haven't even done anything but start Windows and update some drivers.

Dont think its a heat problem as actually it should lock up before even shutting down..

Btw, is a simple restart working? I mean like just restarting it without windows prompting u..

I'll check once i can get the thing to finally boot up again. The worst thing about all this is windows vista, I am so lost right now with all these new menus, it is really slowing me down.

Still not even giving me a hint of booting up after normal shutdown or normal restart, I'm just going to wipe out the OS to kill some time, good thing I didn't throw my old laptop through the wall like I wanted to.

As a last ditch effort to get to the bottom of my problem, I removed a stick of ram since I got the 2gig x 2 for a future upgrade to x64. After i did that, the system performance increased exponentially! I knew in advance that vista x86 wouldn't recognize 4gig of ram, but I didn't expect it to impact my system so dramatically.

Well I guess I was too optimistic, after I continued my updating and restarting, I ran into the same problem, I swapped ram modules around a couple times and no success.

In the process of reloading the OS and praying that something wasn't quite right with the initial install.

Hmm, well with VISTA you may never know as it could be an OS problem..

Anyhow, lets see how the reload OS option works out.

Well this is an interesting situation, my install finished and the computer went to restart itself, and now I am just staring at a blank screen again wondering what will happen if I do a hard reset.

I don't think I have been this mad since Asus released the dual 16X PCI-e motherboard about 2 weeks after I built my desktop with the shared bandwidth SLI slots.

On the restart, does it POST or get stuck at the windows boot? If it doesnt POST, then sounds like a hardware issue and not a VISTA/Os issue..

It doesn't POST when it hangs up on the restarts, but it seems to run fine once it finally decides to boot up.

Hardware issues seem likely, I hate to think it is hardware since I have had it for only 3 hours now, but there is nothing left to blame really.

I appreciate the input, I guess I will have to make some calls tomorrow.

Hmm, if it doesnt POST on a restart then definately you can rule out a bad OS/VISTA issue..

Contacting support seems the best option here.

Theres nothing more frustrating like gettin a new computer after a long wait and finding it has problems on the first run!!

I had this EXACT problem. It was bad RAM, I just sent the RAM (cross-shipment) to the reseller and TADA, 4GB of RAM POSTing and 3GB in Vista Premium (soon to be Vista Ultimate 64-bit ;) so that I can get all 4GB)

My computer would not restart and if I took out one of the SODIMMS then it would work like nothing was wrong.

Make sure that you reseller tests the RAM before they send it to you.

If its like alot of the bios I have worked with, you will have to enable the 4gb option in your bios to see it all in in windows.

Look for somthing similar to "memory remaping"

It allows the memory normally reserved for the system to be used by windows so you can see all 4gb.

Yes it does and all versions of Vista 64 can read 4GB or more, only the vista 32 reads up to 3GB even BIOS shows you have 4GB.
