hey guys.
Since a few weeks my g1s just shutdown after a little gaming; the comp itself is pretty hot.
I got those temps in hardware monitor:
When idle : core 1 64c, core 0 65c and GPU 83c
After a hour of gaming: core 1 87c, core 0 89c and GPU 105c
Are those temps normal? I can't even touch my notebook without burning my hands!
Thanks

Yeah - those temps do seem a little high. I agree with trying to clean the vents.
A video card driver uninstall and reinstall might be a good idea too. Random game shutdowns are just as often driver failures as they are heat issues. -
I also support the cleaning idea, however the G1S GPUs do get pretty hot I'm afraid... It seems to be a common problem with the 8600 GPUs.
But I would not go as far as to say that 105 degrees under load is "normal".
Some people have been sending G1Ses into RMA, in North-America, and had the motherboard and GPU replaced by the G1Sn corresponding components (which do run cooler). But those people (mostly) had their GPUs fried when they RMAed, so I'm not sure if "only" overheating qualifies you for that replacement. -
Can you fry your gpu on purpose?

It is also not something that I would recommend.

I too would suggest cleaning the vents and keep the back of the notebook elevated, then report your temps!

Unholy, ready flipfire's guide to "Undervolting". I was able to knock off 14 degrees off of my idle/normal use/gaming CPU temperatures. It has also knocked off a few degrees off of my GPU since they pretty much are next to eachother. Hopefully it helps you out as well.

I took my G1S back to asus service center and they put in new thermal paste to the cpu, its now cooling faster than before. still reaches 83degree but cools down to 72 or 60s in under half a min
-
That's good to go. Right now I sit at 57C Idle and when gaming I get to about 73C. Now if I had your temps without even undervolting, I would still undervolt to keep it even cooler, but that's my two cents.
EDIT: Actually I sit at 48C and when running programs I sit around 57C. Sorry about that. -
Thx for the answers.
I cleaned the vents, updated bios and nvidia driver, but I still have that problem and it's getting worst. I realised that I had and still have a lot of problem with my G1s, I'm not happy at all with that computer...
What are my options? Is it possible to ask for a replacement from asus? Maybe for a g1sn, since there s so much problems with the 8serie. -
It is a big problem for the GPU temp of G1s
so I am planning to buy a G50 and sold my G1s
your temps are normal. my one is a little bit warmer than yours..
If your Gpu broked, Asus will give you two choices. one is give you a "new" motherboard with 8600mgt, the other is give you a "new" motherboard with 9500mgs
8600mgt is better than 9500mgs in 3d shapping but more hot than 9500mgs because the difference between ddr3 & ddr2 -
Id prefer the swap because you get a gpu that is COOLER (thus can be OC'ed higher if ya want) and it is in fact just a bit slower then 8600GT
If problem keep occuring, id rma for a swap, especially because the replacement in usa and canada seems a hell of a lot faster then in europe
good luck -
I would like a swap; It's the first time I use a warranty. Can someone guide me into that? Plus my english sucks and I don't really know what to tell them to get a swap...
Do i contact my reseller first?
Thanks -
105C is way to hot for a GPU. Normally, GPU's should hit a max of 90C or 92C. I know that on my M5550 my GPU got up to 98C and it started downclocking so it wouldn't fry itself. You have to take into account that at 105C your cards temperature is above boiling point 0_0
-
Wait: how did you manage to get 105? I thought the gpu was built in to stutter (and thus stop to work as high, i think) and maybe even bsod?
-
I got 105C after a hour of gaming; and when it reach around 110C it shutdown by itself

Just mention that it is wellknown that G1S have overheating GPUs, give some links to this forum for instance. Then say you are aware they give some G1Sn Mobo's + GPUs instead of G1S ones, to fix overheating problems. You believe that you qualify, so you kindly ask that they do the same for you.
Be polite, concise, but firm.
Asus G1S overheat! please help
