Problem: Asus G1S randomly fails to boot the os (vista) and simply keeps the blue ASUS led logo on the LED when powered up, but the screen remains black and the laptop as a whole remains unresponsive. I have to power cycle it anywhere from one to nine times before it finally loads the os, doing nothing different each time... so it seems incredibly random or very moody.
First off, it's pretty and i'm sure most of the problems i've had with it so far are a combination of the asus bloatware conflicting with vista... but since i've gotten rid of all the bloatware and flashed the bios to the newest version (successfully i might add) i'm running out of things to blame my problems on.
Even when i first got it out of the box i've had this problem and i just can't figure out how to fix it. I even sent it off to asus so they could fix it and they said nothing was wrong with it and sent it back. i've been reading through the forums here and the faq and various other forums to no avail with this problem so i figured it was finally time to start my own topic. i apologize if the answer is otherwise obvious... but i fix computers for the army for a living so i'm inclined to think i've tried everything i know already.
thanks to any and all help i get on this

my heart goes out to you...
I had exactly the same problem with my F3SV-B1, and again..like you i also sent it back to asus and was informed that the unit is perfectly fine. They performed a fresh install of vista and sent the unit back to me. The very day that i received it...it would fail to boot properly.
Luckily this was within 30 days of purchase...so i went back to my local vendor from whom i bought it, and he made an aggressive phone call to asus and demanded that they replace the unit without asking questions. Asus finally succumbed and here i am with my new unit.
As for you...im really sorry to hear this..and have no clue as to what the problem is.
As for asus...shame on them. they have a great reputation and on certain days theyre great. but other days...the guys on the other end of tech support or dumb as doorknobs. -
thanks for the quick reply... although i don't think a replacement would help me. i had bought a G1 (not the S model) previously at bestbuy, but had the same problem with it, received a replacement, had the same problem with that and ended up having to pay a 270 dollar restocking fee to get a refund. i kept that in mind when i bought the G1S, but i was kinda confident that with the new iteration of machine, the problem would be fixed. it was not, and it does not seem to be a luck of the draw problem unless i'm just unusually unlucky with laptops.
does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it? -
hate to bump my own problem, but i'm getting desperate as to a way to fix this before i leave for iraq for 16 months

Mr._Kubelwagen More machine now than man
Ahh yes...
I've been getting the exact same problem for about a week now with my G1s. It's happened about 3 times so far, and it's getting really annoying. I haven't updated my bios from stock, though. Would that help? -
guys this is my advise to you incase your machine is back to normal or to other user of G1s
Please install Rollback Rx in your G1S.
If you experience Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) or you install corrupted software driver or you install bad games that always crashing your PC.....Rollback Rx is very helpful product.
I installed this in my PC and it save me a lot of time.
If i got BSOD or any corrupted software, i'll just restore my previous (clean or without problem) snapshot and all is back to normal in less than 3minutes....instead of going to this forum and wait somebody to help you.
It's the same as windows system restor BUT Rollback Rx is more reliable. -
run chkdsk /f on vist and next time it will run and check your hard drive for bad sectors and fix them

i think i have the same problem
doesnt bother me -

doesnt bother you that your laptop only boots 4/7 times??????
-
huh, never had this problem ever.... Only when I installed the Video driver that screws with it waking from sleep/hibernation mode...
Then again, I have only used mine for a month as its headed back to Asus for a second LCD replacement because the "brand new replaced" one they put on there is incredibly grainy and already has stuck pixels......

i have the exact same problem.
i called the asus people and they were just being ass****s.
i hate asus. -
Call them up again. If no luck, contact your reseller and have them call ASUS up for you.
