Hi guys,
I've been using my Asus G1S happily for two years, but a few days ago the screen suddenly started to flicker. I narrowed the flickering and/or hanging of the screen with strange colors everywhere down to situations when the graphics card (NVidia Geforce 8600M GT) was used more actively (games, watching movies or Vista's Aero theme) and updated to the newest NVidia notebook drivers for Windows Vista 64-bit (186.81). After that, the problem disappeared for a few days.
Today, as I was watching a movie in Windows Media Player, the flickering reappeared again and Windows reported that the display driver had crashed and had been recovered, which didn't help much. When I tried log on as another user I only saw a flickering black screen (with the mouse pointer though) until after a few minutes a bluescreen ended the session, indicating a problem with the display driver.
Turning off Aero has helped so far and I am able to work without any problems, but as soon as I start a game or open a movie the screen starts flickering and/or hanging with strange colors again.
Does this all mean that the graphics card is going down the drain or is there something else that I could try to fix this problem?

Unfortunately, it seems that your GPU is going to crap out on u, it is not likely a driver problem, more like hardware failure. If you still in warranty, send it to asus. If not, well...hmm, i think of something, downclock the GPU's max frequency with Nvidia System TOOL(google it if u dont know) and see if it works, if it doesn't, well, good luck.

That's exactly what I had feared. Unfortunately my warranty has already expired, but I'm going to contact Asus anyway to see how much a repair would cost. Thank you for your help!
