So the screen latch on my G1S broke the other day; the little plastic piece popped out. It had popped out before but I was able to put it back in, but I can't do it this time - the piece looks physically broken, and the chasis is slightly cracked right near the mechanism.

Anyway, has anyone else solved this problem by fixing up their own little makeshift latch? Or is the only way to go about this to send the entire computer to Asus and let them fix it? I bought it in late August, so I would assume it's still under warranty, but I can't say I know that for a fact. Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

They might refuse warranty anyway on grounds of physical damage -- it depends on how you make your case.

I think the best option is to try getting it serviced from the warranty. if that doesn't work, it might be easier to order the parts yourself from asus estore.

What parts would I order however? Do they sell this tiny plastic piece, or would I have to replace the entire top chasis or something? Any idea how much that would cost?

Yes they might sell the part, it might be difficult to find though (you might need to search for related model-numbers, things don't always show up where they should).

If you do find it it's going to be cheap, in the 20-30 USD at most.
