This is a thread for all those with the Asus G1S-A1. I was wondering how the system was holding up for the owners. For example if there were any defects in it, any recommendations for accessories, etc.

Thanks for all your posts. :D

Check the G1s owner's lounge for alot of comments and feedback from owners.

A theme for the G1s has been some sort of graininess with the screen. Still no idea what that looks like.

There has been a solution posted about the graininess. You need to uninstall Asus Splendid.

G1s Owners Lounge page 15 for the solution

There were some other things that the guy did along with uninstalling Splendid (editing color levels, gamma, etc).

Graininess will not be fixed by settings alone, but maybe by a BIOS update. The spacebar only makes a weird sound if you hit it from the corner.

Then would gaming with fingers on WASD make that weird noise? or will keyboard be small enough for thumb to be in the middle of the spacebar?

Now that I disabled UAC in Vista so that I can actually control my file system and play CDs/DVDs, I have no complaints - it works terrifically, although all I have done so far is install games and play them. Mind you, that's really what the G1s is for, right?

Well I got it about 2 weeks ago and just recieved Processor/Motherboard failure. I am going to call Asus tomorrow and begin the process of returning it. I will let you know with feedback how the exchange/repairs go. But other then the failure I still love my G1s.

The weird sound is made only if you hit it from the VERY end, which doesn't happen even when I'm gaming. Don't worry you're safe.

I was actually thinking of getting the COMPAL IFL90 instead of the Asus since it has windows XP on it and its cheaper. Thing is...it doesnt look as good as the G1S :(

Have been playing with my G1S for about 2 hours now. Here are my first impressions:
    - the look and overall design is not as polished as thinkpads or hp dv9000t but it does have that gamer laptop look
    - keys are not as good as thinkpads but better than the dv9000t - not too mushy with solid feedback
    - very zippy laptop and noticeably faster than the dv9000t
    - I'm not a touchpad fan but I like the non-slippery feel of the touchpad and I like how the touchpad buttons are flush with the laptop
    - the green lights on the side of the lid are not as annoying as I thought they would be but I disabled them anyway
    - I like that the HD comes partitioned - saves me the hassle of doing it myself
    - speakers are a tad tinny but not as bad as I thought - they're loud enough

So far, I am quite pleased that I returned the dv9000t and got the G1S. Gotta try some games on this thing next :)

Yeah I agree, not sure if IFL90 has 512mb GPU dedicated, or if they are just refering to turbocache. If cached then I'm still pleased with G1S in looks and power, if dedicated then an extra gig or so makes the asus somewhat comprable. Either way they are close enough that I just think the G1S is cooler!
