    This topic has like 20 other small threads asking the same thing. Here is a list of "Bloatware" that can be uninstalled from your NEW ASUS G1s.

    1 . Symantic AV Suite -Not a bad program but there are tons of better, that
    are less system intensive
    2. ASUS LiveUpdate - Definitly not required
    3. InstaFun -Definitly not required
    4. Net4Switch - Definitly not needed
    5. NBprobe -Shows Cpu temps, etc. There are alot better programs
    6. Multiframe Up to you, I see no improvement with it installed
    7. Splendid - Up to you, Mine works better w/out at 0gamma 50/50
    8. Data security Manager -Up to you

    *Disclaimer this is for information purposes only, I am NOT telling you to uninstall these programs, This is just what works for me.

    In the near future I am going to update this with the Services I run and disable at "startup". If there is anything specific you want to see, feel free.

    This is a great link to identify services and determine if they are required or not

    I wouldn't get rid of NBProbe. It gives you info like CPU or GPU temps, HDD speeds, etc.

    You should add Data Security Manager to the list.

    data security manager doesn't really do much, and it causes music to stutter when you right click on things. you're better off without it.

    If you didn't uninstall it, then it's in the start menu under "ASUS utility"

    This should be stickied.

    Can someone confirm this list is correct, i finally get my g1s back after 2 weeks and frankly I don't want to crash it by uninstalling all sorts of crap and having to send it back out :p

    Maybe I should promote my older post here as well:

    * Remove ASUS LiveUpdate, definitely. Known to eat up the memory of the computer slowly but surely until you kill it or restart.
    * Remove Norton AV, it's a resource hog, use something lighter like AVG.
    * Remove ASUS Data Security Manager if you have one, it is known to cause stutterring issues.
    * Remove ASUS LifeFrame, it is pretty useless to most and has issues with some games.
    * Possibly remove ASUS Wireless Console, not very useful (mostly duplicates the function of the wireless and bluetooth hotbuttons).

    Also look through the other ASUS utilities, in my opinions all of them are pretty useless except for Power4Gear which many people use because it's convenient. But it also has bugs sometimes and behaves unintuitively for some power profiles.

    And also check my guide: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=81741
    namely the Cleaning up starting programs, and services sections. Might be useful in Vista as well, although it's written for XP.

    I can confirm no software listed in the first post of this thread is critical. Your laptop will run correctly with all the software mentioned there uninstalled.

    What kind of problems does lifeframe have? It seems to me its just a program for the webcam... kinda like the one on the mac... photobooth.

    I still have Lifeframe on my G1S - I don't have problems with it. And I like the Asus Wireless console so I keep that too. But that's just me.

    Nothing on the list is critical and I would, as EBE alluded to, start by cleaning up starting programs. Once you've done that, you can take your time in deleting programs that don't take up resources (except for HD space) until you start them.

    Lifeframe is the program for the webcam. Not sure about the fingerprint reader though.

    I can confirm that these programs can be removed to increase performance and boost start up times. These programs can be found in add/remove programs.

    I also agree with EBE. If you need, you can remove P4G, if you are using other programs like RMClock and or NHC. Same goes for NBprobe.

    LifeFrame is for the webcam, your choice to keep it.

    For those who are removing Norton and Symantect, I would suggest using AVG Free or Avast, or NOD32(pay$).

    Multiframe is that little box symbol located on nech window beside the minimize symbol, this allow you to manage your windows, place them in corners, side by side or up and down. I find this program to be excellent, but but sometimes doesn't work, but great for multi-tasking with multiple windows open, plus the G1S has a high resolution screen to effective make use of it.

    What do these programs do exactly? Do I need them and do you recommend them?

    * Email LED
    * GameFace
    * IP Switch
    * Asus Video Security

    "* Email LED" this seems to light up the email LED when you have new mail in Outlook. If you don't need the feature, or you don't use Outlook -- remove it.

    I'm not sure about the others.

    Hi...

    You can solve the stuttering problem by installing latest version of "Data Security Manager"... Just installed version 1.00.0006 on my french Vista G1S and stuttering disappeared instantly.

    Seems they fixed the bug...

    If you don't need the Data Security Manager, I still suggest just keep it uninstalled...
