    Asus G1s VS Asus V1s
    Which is better?

The v1 has a full 512 mb GPU, and the g1 has a 256mb onboard +256 cache. Which is the better GPU in this case?

I am sort of confused between the two as to waht is the difference (b/w laptops), for the price is about the same...

    thanks,
    nonemus

Supposedly the V1S has better build quality. The V1s is a bit smaller, the g1s is big for a 15.4" laptop. The G1s video card is using gddr3 memory, and is much faster then the gddr2 the v1s uses. The g1s is better IMO

As mentioned the g1s has the 8600m gt gddr3 card compared to the v1s with a ddr2 card.

The v1s has a finger print reader, swivel web cam, spill proof keyboard, and swappable bay (for second battery, dvd/hd-dvd drive, travel tray) none of which are present on the g1s.

If the v1 has a better build quality then why are there more problems with it?

Is the V1 overall a good laptop or not?

Well, some V1s owners are satisfied with their V1s-es, some are not . .. you could check out the V1s owners lounge for more info if you're really interested . ..

P.s. Nothing in this world is perfect, including notebooks . . .

    Like what kind of problems?
I too was trying to decide between a G1s and a V1s because I would gladly trade the gddr3 video memory for almost one pound less of weight.
I'm gonna check the owners lounge...

I got my v1s-b1 three days ago, and so far I love it. The problems people talk about are that on some the left click is hard to press (it is fine on mine), problems with the modular battery (which I don't use), and problems reading the amount of battery use (will see if this is a problem in the future). One of the main reasons I decided on it was because of the fact that it is lighter... and I think the problems some people are having are minimal (as long as you aren't depending on the mod. battery) when compared to getting the v1s overall.

to sum it up, if your're a gamer and you need to use graphic intensive programs, then go for the G1S. If you don't game that much then go for the V1S. That's all you need to know. (the V1S has pretty good gaming power but not as future proof as the G1S)

I dont game much but I will use the laptop for photoshop, premeir etc., so I think Ill go with the G1 although it is 0.8lbs heavier and has less battery life. Thanks to everyone for helping me make this decision!

Photoshop and Premeir are said to be more taxing and reliant on the CPU and memory than the GPU. As a result I don't think you'll see much if any improvement from the gddr3 in the G1s. The thing the gDDR3 will make the most difference in is game performance.

Yeah don't got for the G1 if it is not for gaming...

You might even look at something with a 8400GS/8600GS

Wait, so the 512MB Card in the V1s are better for my purposes or is there no real difference?

And also, I kind of like the looks of the G1 better the V1 even though I am not going to game on it that much

yes the 512 card is better for your purposes. The G1S uses a 256 but is DDR3, which is better, more powerful and sucks up more battery. Depends what games you'll be doing too. But looking from your previous posts go for the V1S, to me it looks much more professional while the g1S looks very flashy and has bright green in spots. I have a G1S myself but only cause I do some gaming and needed a powerful rig, but otherwise I would've gotten the V1S. just a warning about the V1S, I've read on the forum that there are some inherent problems with the V1S regarding its battery. The G1S also has a batt problem but can be easily fixed, refer to this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=169410

If you like the looks of the G1S, go for it. It will do just fine for the tasks you are running.

The c90s is more powerful than both the g1s and v1s. The drawback to that power is that it has a shorter battery life than the other two systems. The benefit of the c90s is that it comes with a desktop processor and has a upgradeable graphics card making it the most powerful 15.4" system you can find.

The v1s is lighter, quieter, and runs at a cooler temperature than the c90s. The battery issue with the v1s has to do with using the second modular battery with the system, and there is a workaround for it at the moment (which requires shutting off the system, unplugging the batteries, powering the system up while it is plugged into the wall, and then reinserting the batteries. There were concerns when the v1s first came out that it had battery wear issues like its predecessor the v1j, but those rumors have been found to be false.

And Also the G1s is cheaper. You get more if u pay 2100 for the g1s than the v1s

with the same cpu(2.4ghz) and ram (4GB) and a better GPU,

it has a backpack, nice mouse, and a bigger faster HD and artic silver 5.
