    Hello notebookreview :D
I know there are topics about this, but i think my situation is different.
I have an asus g1s and he was getting 3500+- in 3dmark06 in the default resolution and 4.8 in Vista test, with 2gb of ram.
Now that i have 3gb of ram, my 3dmark06 is 3000+- and my Vista score is 4.7
My score was already low for G1s, i saw a lot of 3800+.. but now it got worse.
Can anyone help me? Thanks again

I think that would be caused by the memory not using Dual Channel... As far as I know, for dual channel to work, memory modules need to be installed in equal amounts. That is, two modules of 512 mb each, two modules of 1 GB each, two modules of 4 gb each...

However, if you decide to go all the way up to 4 gb, then you will need a 64 bit OS altogether in order to take full advantage of that huge amount of ram.

    Happy holidays,

Hmm. I don't think memory is causing such a low score. It is true that you lost dual-channel after upgrading to 3GB of ram, but the performance difference is very minimal. Check your power settings and make sure powermizer isn't on under Nvidia Control Panel. Also, make sure that your power options under Control Panel are set to full performance.

Try updating your video drivers and download RivaTuner and check your clock speeds along with your tempratures for the GPU and CPU to make sure your laptop isn't overheating.

P.S. Vista Experience Index score is useless, dont pay any mind to it :)

The 8600m GT is using drivers 169.13 from laptopvideo2go, is that alright?
    thanks

Rayan thats not quite right with the santa rosa chipset it will still use the first 2 gigs in dual channel the third will not. now that said if the timings and speed of the two modules are different that will slow down scores

I have the G1s-X1, T7300, with 3gb ram and my vista score was 4.8 with both 2gb and 3gb of RAM. I also updated my driver to 169.13 and got a score of 3919 with 3Dmark06. I didnt try it with the old stock video driver though so i have no score for that. if you have the A1, you should at least see higher scores than me with the .2 faster processor. thats odd.

    I know and i have the G1s X-3 with the 2.2 processor
it`s kinda sad to get these results when you could be getting much more.

And both the 1gb and 2gb sticks are 667mhz, but the 2gb is 55515, not 55512.. couldnt find 55512 2gb ram.

Another thing that comes to mind is that people have been reported performance drops with Vista when it is upgraded from 2 to 3GB. Some memory management issues I think.

Make sure your Vista is updated with all the hotfixes.

Perhaps try a clean recovery with the 3GB installed? Maybe that will get Vista to agree better with the 3GB :) But this is just a wild idea

I think ill make a clean install. The problem is i don`t understand much of PCs. Is it hard to do that? I have yo use the recovery dvd right? and everything is there?
And will my HD still be splited like it came?
    Thanks

Hi, the clean install was as I mentioned a wild idea.

There are several recent threads discussing the recovery process. Check my XP guide for how to install with the recovery CDs, and on a tip to get a clean install. The procedure is the same for Vista.

One option that I did not mention there is the recovery partition. Hit F9 during boot and you will recover from a hidden recovery partition. Much faster, but all the bloatware is installed and you can't stop it.

As long as you select "Recover to 1st partition only" you will even keep your data on the 2nd partition (the Vista is the first partition, which will be overwritten).

So you think it`s better if i use the recovery dvd and during the boot press f9 for that? I don`t know if i understood quite well.
Also i upgraded my drivers to 169.17 and now i got 3300 in 3dmark06 basic. It is a 300+ improvement, but still 500+ far from the others.

I suggest don't base your decisions on 3D mark scores. They are synthetic benchmarks. Base your decisions on real-life performance. If there is a real-life performance drop, then reinstall Windows or take whatever steps are necessary. Otherwise don't waste the time.

Have you read my install guide where I pointed you to? Then things should be clear about how to recover from DVDs. F9 recovers from HDD -- different source.

Question: It was mentioned previously that the 1GB RAM was 5-5-5-12 and not 5-5-5-15. Is that true? Is it the Nanya that comes (presumably) with every G1S? I also upgraded my memory to 3GB with a 2GB 5-5-5-15, won't different latency times cause any problems?

I don`t think there are 2gb modules 5-5-5-12, at least i never saw or heard of.. and i don`t think that it brings problems..

Kamikaze I hate to hijack your thread, but your question got me wondering about my G1. I have the old G1-P ( I think thats the one with the 7700, and the 7200, am I right?) I was considering on buying a 2gb RAM stick and swapping that with one of my 1gb sticks to have 3 total GB's, but your situation has me wondering, will I too suffer a performance loss if I go ahead with my planned purchase?

P.S My apologies again, Kamikaze, for sort of hijacking your thread :)
