In my other thread I asked about partitions and I followed all the instructions, but then when I went to check on my harddrive in the computer area I got an error and explorer shut down and I had to reset, when I Went to open it it said there was an error and it can't get into windows and it cant fix it itself so I tried the recovery CD and I tried all three recovery options but as soon as I click next It says that it cannot set temp path to work in and says ERROR in big red letters, I just got it and it was working fine all day and I really don't want to send it back, should I try and buy/install a fresh copy of vista or is there a way to fix this?

Just because no one has replied within 40 minutes doesn't mean that no one is going to help you. Be patient!

Don't worry. I'm sure it's fixable. At the worst you'll have to repartition and reinstall the operating system.

I guess you were referring to the partitioning suggestions in this thread
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=156098

If you deleted your partitions you'll have to make new ones.
I'm not sure what options are on the restore CD, so you'll have to wait for someone who'd actually used one.

Yeah I used to command line version, the recovery disk has an option to recover to the whole hdd to only one partition or to both partition I think but I don't think the recovery disk actually has the OS on it =/

You don't have to be sorry. Just realize that it's fairly late in the US/Canada so many members won't be online.

Well I think I figured it out, since I thought the problem was with the partitions I tried booting from linux live CD's but that didn't work so I looked for live disk partition managers and found gparted and It said that my entire harddrive had been unpartitioned so I made it one big hard drive again and put in the recovery disk and its recovering =D

    I hope this worked!

I'm glad you worked out your problem, and I'd also like to point out that the G1S's recovery disk DOES have the OS on it. It wouldn't be much of a recovery disk if it didn't!

Think the recovery DVD has an image on it or something, and during "recovery" it restores that image onto the harddrive.

If your hard drive is damaged, your only choice is to get a new one either through your Asus warranty or by just purchasing one. After that, reinstalling from the recovery discs shouldn't be too hard...

It's likely that your hard drive might be damaged. If so just replace it through the Asus Warranty. If you have the afformentioned notebook than you are still within the warranty period.

Otherwise I really suggest just doing a full formating and reinstalling of the OS, because sometimes your hard drive could get so clustered that it thinks there is damage when really its just a "messy" hard drive. I have many situations like that before. This can be caused by hacing two seperate OS's installed with two different file systems. The clusters are of different sizes and therefore cause confusion to many of thos programs that assess harddrive damage. It can even happen to flash drives.
