Hi,
is the asus g1s-a1 a bit over the top with the lights and the highlighted keys? just wondering what other peoples opinions are on the matter.

It's as it is from the pictures. The lights can be disabled through a program. Where do you live in Canada BTW? Perhaps you can find a store with it.
-
i live in Toronto, ontario
-
Im not to worried about the lights, cuse of being able to disable them, but the gammer eye logo thing can't be disabled ive heard, and then the highlighted keys...
-
I'd recommend you call up Danny from MilestonePC and ask if they have the G1s on display, they are located in Markham(15-20 mins north of Toronto).
-
alright sick, cuse everywhere else ive gone they said they would have to order one in, and i figured if there ordering it in there really gona push me to buy it.
thanks -
The keys and eye are very nondescript. They're slick and well integrated, so they really don't stick out.
The lights on the side are the problem. You can turn them off, but them flashing really does nothing: it's the fact that they're very bright neon lime green, even when turned off that kills me. -
If it wasn't for the gamer eye thing, then it would be a very sleek machine. The highlighted keys aren't a big deal, and the flashing lights only flash when DX9 games are being played.
-
Yeah, main problem is my parents dont want me getting a gaming machine, luckly they know nothing of hardware so.
-
Wait so its still neon green when the lights arent on?
-
-
I think it'd be a great looking machine without the lights. Looks are a subjective thing, its a matter of preferance. I think there is a definate market for the glitz and flash.
-
But on a more serious note, the Asus G1s is branded as a gaming notebook. So u cant blame them for adding in lights and such as PC gamers tend to be real enthusiasts in terms of a system build and love exotic builds to make their machine unique!! -
I find the looks unfortunate, something I'd be embarrassed to bring to work, but then again, it is marketed for gaming. From what I've seen, I find the eye a little too over the top.
-
Hmm, im thinking that the average person if the lights were off wouldnt realize that it can be lit up, so then it just looks like a paint job type of thing, correct me if im wrong. It also looks like when your using the laptop that you wouldnt actualy notice the lights, cuse im thinking neon green lights in the eyes while trying to play wouldnt be so sweet.
-
I wish the lights on the side slowly pulsed on and off. The fast flashing (mine does it all the time, not just in games) is pretty lame.

Yea, or flashed very rapidly. The speed they are at right now is kind of an awkward tempo.
-
I wouldn't be surprised if someone made a mod for the lights to have them pulse...just that no one has stepped up to the challenge
I remember someone here mod'ed the LEDs to do its own funky things like pulse to music - when the point of the program was to turn all the LEDs off when needed(it can be brightly awkward in a dark room watching a movie, for example.) -
There should be threads for pictures of every Major Asus Laptop (So people who want one can have pics. To me the a8js looks ugly but i dunno. The G1 looked ugly but i guess not(That looks Hot. Now i want one
)

Neon glows in a red color, not green. Those are LED lights.
What really killed the G1 for me was the extra inch of blank space over the screen ... -
I live in Toronto too (well in Scarborough), and I picked up my G1S-A1 at Infonec ( http://www.infonec.ca), their having a sale which ends on Sunday (June 17, 2007).
It's going for $2019 CAD before taxes which is the cheapest I've seen, when I paid for it, the guy said there's a $90 mail in rebate on the G1S through Asus which I can get the form on their site. Rebate is good for the purchase of a G1S-A1 which was purchased between June 15 to June 31.
I'll be mailing that rebate on Monday.
