Hey all,
I was just wondering if anyone has had Asus replace the motherboard or exchange them with a newer model? I had the usual heat issues, but it seems that the cooling pad is a must now, even without overclocking. I have replaced drivers and followed the guides and game at a decent temperature, but I am just seeing what others have done. Other manufacturers have taken ownership and taken care of the customers, so now I am thinking about calling Asus and getting the official word on what they are going to do. They have given me the run around in the past and it has gotten tiring. I will keep this thread posted with there response for future reference as I have not found any threads yet that clearly state the replacement was due to a defective GPU in the G2S/G1S.

I think it's a case by case basis, because not all 8600 GPUs are defective. I think it's the norm for Asus to try and repair your notebook 3 times before giving you a new replacement.

These days, if it's something that requires a mobo swap or a GPU swap, Asus replaces the G1s mobo with a G1sn mobo (and the accompanying 9500m GS).

To the OP: just to cover it, did you clean your notebook (fan, and heatsink grill) from dust recently? Otherwise, the dust buildup may well be responsible for the increase in temps. -
EBE, it is immaculate. I personally keep it clean and I have had an official "ASUS" cleaning. My temp's aren't 110+ C, but I was just seeing if Asus had taken care of the 95-105C people.

any word on this situation? ive been growing concerned with the temps in my notebook, like now for example, running only utorrent, firefox and everest.
(from Everest)
Sensor Type HDD
GPU Sensor Type Driver (NV-DRV)
Temperatures
CPU 75 °C (167 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #1 75 °C (167 °F)
CPU #1 / Core #2 74 °C (165 °F)
GPU 86 °C (187 °F)
Hitachi HTS722020K9SA00 48 °C (118 °F)
Voltage Values
CPU Core 0.97 V
cpu is undervolted (obviously). gpu is at 86 and climbing, im afraid of what would happen if i were to game. this is a recent os reinstall, so i'm still on stock nvidia drivers, any suggestions on which to get from lv2g?
also, as far as cleaning, what is the best approach? is it wise to open it up beyond simply removing component covers? ie should i take off the entire bottom? 0.o -
Hey, I have actually not made any progress. I have been holding off on an external drive to do a backup and drive image before I send it back. I will ordering my external setup this month and probably RMA my G2S late dec/jan. Hey, try out the 177.66 drivers, they will drop your temps on just simple tasks because they downclock (powermizer). They have bee the best driver set so far with 0 issues. Not sure exactly what the best cleaning practice is :/

thanks gengerald, helpful as always.

my notebook just died on me. i was using it on batteries and had to leave the house so i left it on. I come back home and obviously my notebook is drained. i plug it in and turn on, i can hear everything but nothing on the screen. I tried to plug in an external screen and i still get nothing. I havent overclocked gpu or anything. i have a not yet validated version of vista 64bit ultimate, and driver from laptopvideo2go. T.T its been a year and half since i bought.
The only thing that i worried about is that part of the plastic casing is chipped from me hitting a wall or something while carrying it (not drop) and about a year ago i spilt a Little bit of something.
Would these issue prevent me from warranty work?? -
It shouldn't. They should fix the hardware, but may not replace the plastic piece. Just don't mention it ;-/
