I've just received my laptop and I want to ensure that everything is working properly ASAP because I have 15 days to return it to the vendor where they will still take care of everything no matter what.

I've researched about which bloatware to remove and am comfortable with that, but can anyone recommend tests to do to ensure everything is working (obviously insert CD's/DVD's, browse internet, look at pixels closely). I'm hoping to nail any problems that could lie within the hardware AND software.

Suggestions on what tests to do and HOW TO BEST PERFORM THEM (i.e. best method of finding dead pixels?) would be greatly appreciated.

I just go through different colored backgrounds to find dead/stuck pixels.
You can test performance by using Futuremark's pcmark05 and 3dmark06.
Besides that, just plug stuff into every single port, use all the wireless capabilities(iR,wifi,BT), etc.

I wouldn't worry too much about software, as that can be fixed by an update.
