Hi, I will be entering college this year and am purchasing a gaming laptop to last me for 4 years.
I cannot wait for the Clevo M570RU's mid july/august ship date. So my next best option (i think) is to go with the Asus santa rosa G2S which comes with the 8600GT GPU, as opposed to the m570ru's upgradeable Go 7950 GTX or eventual 8700/8800 series gpus later down the line.
I look forward to playing games on the laptop such as dod:source, hitman 2, hellgate (eventually), red orchestra, but probably nothing too demanding such as FEAR or Crysis (or maybe just on low settings).
Realisitically, will my decision to go with the Asus G2S-A1 be able to hold its own for gaming in the next 4 years? I understand that as time goes on, and as games start to use DX10, I will have to lower the eye candy settings because the 8600GT isn't "elite" status, but regardless will the laptop be able to hold it's own? I've also read that the native resolution for the 17'' screen (1920x1200) might lag down the graphics and force me to change game settings. Conversely, I've heard that the Asus screens are the best in the industry. It's hard to balane all this minutiae!I am really quite new to this, so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
