We won't see a G3 anytime soon... But eventually there will be new and better models under Asus Gaming Series.
So the main issue is, how much time are you willing to wait?
The G1 and G2s are still considered NEW models and I think there's still much life in those models.
However, Santa Rosa and DirectX 10 is right around the corner, but I just want to wait and see how the new platform evolves and maybe take the plunge on 2nd generation models instead. By then I'm sure I can sell my G1... -
The G3 has no concrete specs, we don't even know the size.
It was rumoured to be a 17" with a 7900, but was delayed, probably due to Santa Rosa/dx10. -
I dun think there ll be G3s since Asus dun built anything over 17". And the name will still stick there as G1 and G2. The good news is, they MIGHT redesign a whole new chassis for G1 seeing how popular it is (We pray, we hope, i dun wan anymore rebadge!). The bad news is, a midrange GPU would still be stucked into the G2 and still claiming it is a gaming notebook at 17",

im glad to hear that there MIGHT be a g3...im willing to wait about 2 months cause thats the time it will take me to acculmulate enough money for a g2...cause around that time i will be doing robotics programming in uni and it will be handy to have a laptop around so yea...and i love the fact that its a 17" instead of a 15.4" ....no particular reason...i just like bigger screens...i dont mind paying a little extra either....
o and btw...im not very good with computers but could u guys just tell me...if im just running games like wc3 and doom3 at most...would this laptop be fine running those?
and 1 last thing....wats santa rosa? -
I can't speak for the G2, but as far as I'm concerned, the G1 has a bit better performance/price than the G2. I've been playing Doom 3 (and many other recent ones) without any problems what so ever!
Santa Rosa is the name of the NEW platform that's about to come out, it's also known as Centrino Pro, but that's not the only catch, the coolest thing is that it will be able to include the newer DirectX 10 video cards (here's wishing) and faster Front Speed Bus. Obviously the new platform will cost a few hundred dollars more, so take that into consideration.
One question: Why do you prefer the 17 inch screen of the G2 over the 15.4: of the G1? Even though the G2 has a 17 inch screen it has also lower resolution than that of the G1!

Check out the Arima computer that is going to be the alienware 9750
Thats what the g3 is supposed to be like. -
i was jsut hoping for a G3 because i want it to have blue lights...eg g1 is green...g2 is red...and so i want g3 to be blue...and maybe they can upgrade the gpu a lil...i dont mind...if it can run doom3 im cool with it cause thats the most ill be playing...cause im a uni student.
i mainly like the g2 over the g1 because here in aus its only $500 difference and i get a bigger screen...i like a bigger screen...and i like to have more lights...hence the lights on the side of the keyboard...and another thing...i dont really like green...its not my color, thats another reason^^
o btw...does anybody who is in Australia have a g2 yet? if so plz tell me if it comes with a built in tv tuner -
The G1 green color comes from the nVidia characteristic Green in their logos and the G2 red color comes from, yes, you guessed it, ATI characteristic red in their logo. So I doubt there will be blue scheme on future Gaming Series but I agree it would make a nice laptop color scheme.
Take care!

I like blue. It's a pretty colour. My mouse, external harddrive and my walls are blue. My hakama and gi however, are not. They are black, because I'm and iaidoka and not a kendoka. Kendoka have indigo hakama and gi. Indigo is a nuance of blue.
...now i know that's a bit random, but I'm sick and I'm tired, so it's ok.
Anyways, on topic: Intels colour scheme is blue(ish), so blue lights might mean an intel gaming graphics card (isn't that an oxymoron?). But doesn't the G2 have a better build? I know it looks nicer with the aluminium on the lid. -
yea i like the way u think fab...i wouldnt mind if they just change the g2 to blue lights and then put in a better gpu...i dont really care about the gpu that much and maybe add another $100 aud or so to the price...ill buy it...but it would be best if they can trim down the weight...cause 4.4kg goddam...thats heavy

Matrox anyone?
-
But apparently there are some that don't mind which card they put in the "next" G2...
Just kidding 8u8813f1uff ...
