    Hi Everyone,
I'm fairly new to this forum, being that I received my new G50 yesterday. I decided to do a complete restore and bump everything to Vista Ultimate. All the drivers installed successfully, but Direct Console keeps opening on startup (causing it to not respond). How do I get direct console to act normal and not open at each start?

Id try to uninstall it and install it back again. It should work fine in ultimate its the same as home premium that it comes installed on minus a few extras.

    Hi,
I discovered the problem. My Ultimate version didn't have service pack 1. After I installed service pack 1, Direct Console 2.0 worked properly.

    Thanks,
    Gabe

Im just the opposite, it did not do it to me and now suddenly it does. Also my copy protection software broke.

Google lead me to find that a windows update is responsible for the software to stop working. I just uninstalled it since I didnt really plan to use it, the better software is the vault and it still works, but do not think its even close to the vault/encryption software that the c90s had as it took like 5 or so minutes to decrypt a file before you could use it, this one just opens up and the files are ready to use so I wonder if they are encrypted at all, maybe just hidden or password protected.

So anyways back on topic, I am maybe thinking a windows update is also responsible for the Direct Console issue? Thats the only that has changed on my machine since it started happening is windows updates. Its not a big deal you can just close it and its actually a great reminder to put my laptop in turbo extreme mode. If it does start to bother me I can also just block the program with msconfig all together.

Hey Gabez man, how do you find the build quality of this laptop compared to the M15X?

The evil direct console is back!!! It has to be an update, as I had it working perfectly for a few days. Now it continues to open at the start of each boot. I guess it's not horrible, but I hate having things open during boot.

@lightning penguin - Build quality is much better. It's almost the difference between night and day.

Can you try disabling it in msconfig?

    Hi,
If I disable it in msconfig, then the OLED won't work until I reopen it. What I'm trying to accomplish is having the direct console run on startup, but I don't want the configuration application to open automatically. It seems like it works properly when its first installed, but shortly after, it starts automatically opening its configuration application at the start of every boot.

i have the exact same problem with my g50v..., and not a clue about what to do... ive tried uninstalling and installing, disabling it in control panel and ccleaner.., but then you have to manually start the program so you can get the little screen to say something other than "republic of gamers"... i just want the stuff to run on startup without the configuration screen coming up every time... any help?

For problems with OLED stuck on "REPUBLIC OF GAMERS" and possibly other console issues

    Try this:

Turn off your machine, and unplug everything. Remove the battery.
On the bottom of the laptop near one of the screws (toward the front of the laptop) there is a pin sized hole marked by a >{}< symbol. Press the reset button located inside that pinhole and hold for 30 seconds. You will not lose any information from this reset.

This fixed my problem with the logo being stuck on REPUBLIC OF GAMERS after an OS restore.

Thanks to ASUS customer service Ryan.

most of the console issues came from a Windows update most likely. My console OLED is stuck on the ROG logo and I can't access the Direct Console program at all...The file says it's actually corrupt. After the new BIOS install I got back the touch pad usage but it didn't fix the DC file at all. Becasue it's corrupt it also can't be removed for some reason. UGH!

Isn't this the ATK problem that Ken from GentechPC was mentioning on another thread? That problem was caused by a corrupted ATK driver file, he suggested to reinstall the ATK driver. The thread is nearby at this time.
