    Hey guys,

I have a weird problem that's been happening with my Asus G50. It seems that there is a random hissing sound that goes on for about 5 seconds steady then stops. I know the User Account Control window that comes up almost always triggers the sound and this only happens with speakers or headphones plugged in. Also, it does happen randomly (other than the UAC window) but less frequently. It does not make the sound from the laptop speakers though, just when something is plugged into the headphone jack. So I was curious as to what the cause/solution/more troubleshooting steps might be? Thanks alot for the help!!!

Looks to be some kind of interference, perhaps with the CPU? Coupled with the reports about interference with USB devices, it seems the audio board in the G50 is not properly shielded...

Reiko - you need to go into the Realtek Audio control panel, click the micorphone tab and turn off microphone playback. That'll stop the hissing. Doesn't help with the high pitched sound from some USB devices though.

Thanks for the replies guys, but the playback is already muted. Jasper, would you think the microphone effects have something to do with it? Just wanted to note that the headphone jack is where the problem arises... anytime a speaker is plugged in, I hear the hissing.

Have you got anything plugged into either of the 2 USB ports next to the audio jack? A few of us have background noise when either of the 2 USB ports are used, plugging into the rear or left hand side USB ports fixes it.

If it's not the mic playback then it must be a USB device I would have thought. My G50 is perfect through the headphone jack, so long as no USBs are plugged in. The USB ports nearest the headphone jack are worse, but as Okuni points out, using the alternate USB ports minimises the problem.

But I find it interesting that you describe it as hiss. Hiss is usually associated with the mic feedback problem rather than USB which produces a high pitched sound usually.

Wow having that USB plugged in right beside the headphone jack is certainly what caused the problem. Thanks alot guys! I just have another quick question, where is the article showing how to install the new BIOS (even if its beta) step-by-step because I do have some keyboard lag I need to take care of. Thanks!

    In my signature.

Sorry, I should have made the possibility of the USB device interfering clearer in my 1st post.

Had the same problems, something like scratching and hissing when a USB hard drive was attached. Switching to the USB ports away from the headphone jack cleaned up the audio. Suppose I'll have to get a USB hub to make use of the 2 ports I lose when I want to use headphones.
