I am about to buy a cooling pad for my G50, but I am encountering one issue: the Zalman NC1000 or NC2000? I have read reviews about both on NBR and they say the NC2000 is for bigger rigs (over 15.4 inches.)

Would the NC1000 be large enough for this laptop? Since the G50's size is more like a 17" machine, I am thinking this wouldn't be enough.

Also, if anyone is using another cooler for this laptop they feel is superior, lemme know. Thanks!

    Hey Corruptzor,

I bought a ZM NC1000 and I like it. It is small enough to fit in the backpack, but the laptop is a little wider then the cooler pad. However, it fits on the cooler with no problems.

I have owned this laptop for about 2 weeks now and I am very happy with the system temperature without a cooler. I find myself not bringing the cooler with me to places unless I plan on gaming on it for a decent amount of because it's sorta of unessary extra luggage. However, I do have it setup on my desk at home and use it everytime I get on my laptop at home. It is conforting to know that I am helping to keep my system cooler and protecting my new toy, but I have not tested it enough under high gaming load to see the difference. The max temperature I have recorded w/o the cooler is currently 82 GPU and 63 CPU with a norm temperature about 5-7 degrees lower. I may try to do some gaming on the cooler tommorrow and see what kind of difference it makes in the temperature.

One advantage to having it is that it tilts the laptop up at an angle, which can be more comfortable.

I am interested to see what other owners say about using a cooler with this laptop. I do know that the G50V has much lower temps when gaming then several of my peers with vaios, dells, and hp machines.

Great post Epochmoo, you covered all the bases on what I was wondering.

You're right, this laptop never really gets too warm, but I am considering getting one just for piece of mind, as the laptop is usually on all day (downloading, etc.)

My main concern is for the dual hdd's: I have them striping and I want to minimize any chance of drive failure.

I was at work, playing Devil May Cry 4 for about 3 hours straight and it never once felt overheated. I really don't think you even need it.

the NC1000 fit it just barley. I posted a pic of it somewhere but I forgot where. the NC2000 would be the better fit, but it is not necessary.

I personally have to use my cooler unless its just a very fast on and off thing because I need the tilt to type. Without it, it feels like the notebook is tilted backwards lol. Thats because I always type on a lifted keyboard.

I use the NC1000 and I only use it for long TF2/Age of Conan sessions, otherwise It's almost not needed, unless you use it for the angle.

The cooler gave a noticable ~5-10 degree average drop in temperature in both the cpu and gpu after running bioshock for about 3 hours with and without the cooler.

I personally got the NC-2000 and there's an extra about a half inch of room on each side. It also fits in the backpack but it's a bit tight and it might be hard to zip. I dug up the link to the pic that you posted for me when i asked about it, Vicious:

My F3SV 15.4 inch laptop has millimetres to spare on the zm1000 as the feet are flush at the edges. I'll be getting the 17" model soon.

has any one tired the Thermaltake iXoft Fanless Notebook Cooler with the G50v?

the reviews i have been reading seem to really favor the pad. http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=901&num=1

just wondering as i know there is an exhaust fan that blows down on the G50v, if it would screw up with this pad underneath?

it works by using a special salt that turns liquid when heated and transfers heat around instead of staying in one spot..

also good if using on your laptop as it blocks all the heat.

The g50v sucks air into the notebook to cool down, I do not see how that is going to help any. If anything looks like it would maybe clog/block vents and make it run hotter.

I understand the theory behind the cooling pad, its much like how heatpipes work inside the notebook, heat causes a state change and the the material will move the heat from one place to another to be dispersed.

Like if you sit a hot component on the pad it would move the heat away, but what good is that going to do when the heat is not under the notebook? The heat comes out the exhaust vent on the side and at that point its already been released from the notebook.

So anybody is free to prove me wrong but I do not see how that pad could work for any laptop unless the laptop itself was hot on the outside and it did not need to vent air from the bottom.

Im 3 reviews deep so far and everybody says so far the purpose of this product is not to cool the notebook but just so you can use it in your lap and not feel the heat in your lap.

Personally, being able to have children is ample enough reason to purchase something...

Then again, is the G50V really a LAPtop?

Are "laptops" really laptops anymore if you put cooling vents and fans ON THE BOTTOM?!

the reviews i read said it did, cool the notebook down by a few degrees?

    oh well..

i will just look into something else, probably the zalman products...as i will be bringing this to LANs every now and then, and want it to stay as cool as possible
