Okay so I've had this laptop a few weeks and I am just having a couple problems. Let me be upfront, other than these few issues this is a great laptop and I am enjoying it.
First and foremost the Asus software seems to delete itself; I think this is a windows issue. I got up today and direct console, Asus live update, and the instant button program were all non existent. The short cut is in the start menu, and the program is listed in the program manager. But under "C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS" all the folders for the programs are gone. I tried reinstalling, but every time I restart the folders are gone.
Second, I have no dead pixels in the screen, and this is awesome. However I'm starting to notice a mura in the screen. For those of you who don't know what that is, its when the screen has inconsistencies in brightness. 90% of the time it isn't noticeable, but whenever the screen is black you can definitely notice it. It hasn't caused to much a problem so far, but I'm worried about it being progressive; I didn't notice it until today. Does the warranty cover this at all?

Have you tried reinstalling direct console and the hotkey drivers? Also asus live update is useless IMHO best to uninstall it.
Also that screen issue is well known, it should settle with time. It did on my G50V-A2... took about two weeks of steady use. It's still got some but it's not noticeable unless it's all black. See Vicious' review (Screen Quality & Benchmarks section):

Are the drivers different from the program's themselves? I know that sounds retarded... obviously drivers and programs are different, but it's hard to tell from your context what you mean. For example I have reinstalled direct console twice, is there a driver that is different from the program. If so what is it called?
Also when you say that the screen issue has settled, do you mean that it got worse and then better, or that it just started and then stopped?
Thanks for the quick reply.
Also I forgot to mention the C:\preimage folder seems to be missing. -

but while you're at it, upgrading your BIOS is a good idea. It is required for the new drivers that I link here:
