I just formatted my asus g50V a1 laptop and installed windows 7 x64.....build 7000. The install went fine but when i put in the asus driver disc to install all the drivers and some utilities it told me that the OS i was using was not supported. This didn't make too much sense to me as vista drivers are suppose to be compatible and used as windows 7 drivers in the beta.

Anyways after that i went to asus.com and downloaded a vista64bit driver for my laptop and once again it told me the OS is not supported. The only driver that i could install was the nvidia 179.48 for my GPU. Everything else was done through windows update but there is still a few unknown devices in device manager. Any help on how to install those drivers that come with the notebook?

In case you still need this info, perhaps this is useful: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=346074&page=3

I can recommend trying to manually install the drivers from the CD by navigating to their respective folders. Some of them may work even though the main autorun file will say it is not compatible with W7.

I managed to install things by running the setup in compat mode, but it seems to have resulted in less stability and hasn't fixed anything. :(

I guess randomly trying things is the way to go...

is anyone having an issue with their G50v and windows 7 with the DVD drive?

i can use dvd's in it, however out of no where the DVD drive disappears from the system and just spins the disc inside continually. i need to reboot to get the drive back in the device manager or to appear back under my computer?

It looks like i'm condemned to this discurse xD .. Copy all the folders from your Driver's Cd in your desktop and manually set every .exe file to win vista sp2 compatibility and check the box that allows you to run apps as an admin.

Then run the autoexec that comes with the CD - BUT THE ONE YOU HAVE COPIED INTO YOUR DESKTOP - and select which drivers you want to run :)

There should be an sticky with this

Hi, not all the software and drivers from Windows Vista work under Windows 7.

Among the things that do not work are the ATK drivers, and ASUS Security protect Manager.

If you install ASUS Security Protect Manager you would not be able to log into the PC anymore with win7 64bit installed.
I had these issues already. :p

Here is a link to set of drivers I have posted for M50VM for win7 32bit and 64bit.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=5312964#post5312964

I think your notebook will share some of the same hardware as mine so you can use some of the drivers from there.

At least the ATK drivers are the same for all ASUS notebooks.
All ASUS software that are contained in the driver package are also same for all notebooks.
If you have authentec finger print you will also find the driver in the above link.

No ASUS security protect manager does not work at all with Win7 64bit.
After I installed this on my notebook, I was not able to log on anymore. It always hanged on login screen. I had to go to hafe mode to remove it.
The fingerprint will only work for me with the Authentec True Suite manager.

ATK Driver also did not work properly as many of the hotkeys were not working properly until I installed Win7 version.

The only one for the ATK drivers that dont work for me are the one of the Splendid Video Enhancemente Utility , this obviously leaves the touch key without use.

But the Asus Security Protect Manager works fine for me ... have you tried doing what i have said with the compatibility ? i mean , copying the whole folder to your desktop and enabling wvista 64 sp2 compatibility and admin ?

Yes, what you said used to work fine for Win7 32bit RC but did not work properly for Win7 64bit.

Actually, Win7 has introduced it's own Biometric Framework and the old drivers will not work properly.
Microsoft has colaborated with the large finger print providers to integrate support of fingerprint sensor into Win7 as discussed below:
    http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/wi...t-s-finger-on-enhanced-biometric-support.aspx

Authentec and UPEK seems now to have developed drivers and management software themselves and this will be distributed to the OEMS it seems.

The Finger Print Driver that I provided is coming from ASUS employee who runs a German Forum full of information and drivers for ASUS notebooks including Win7 drivers.
Here is the link to forum: www.asustreiber.de

At the asustreiber.de I already discussed this fingerprint topic:

What a crap, and what about using password ? maybe if you disabled the fingerprint recognition you can install it .. after all is just a cute security measure in comparison with an alphanumeric password.

Maybe crap for you but lot of us find the Finger Print sensor very useful.
Especially if you are using the notebook for work where you lock the screen every time you leave your desk 20 times per day or so.

As far as I know ASUS is not going to bring another version of ASUS security protect manager for Win7, which is a petty as I found the password manager very useful.

Looks like you can't have all at the same time ... i insist that if you find more useful the ASPM you can set a writen pass that only you know and that will be more than enough to protect your notebook.

unless of course you work @ NSA headquarters and some inside hacker can decode your encrypted pass in 60 seconds and steal classified information concerning nation's security :D

i understand that you want to use your fingerprint reader cause it's a nice thing .. but you have to choose or you can back @ win vista for the moment.

I don't have to choose anything.
I have the finger sensor working very fine using the Authentec True Suite application under Win7 64bit. :D

You can do what ever best suites you. You can wait few weeks until all the drivers I have posted be released official by ASUS.
There is nothing further to discuss here about.

Of course if there is no finger print sensor on your notebook than for sure if you install Asus Security Protect manager under win7 64bit it would not cuase any problems, because it will not conflict with the Win7 built in Framework. :p

That's why I was wondering that you made it work correctly where lot of users whose notebooks had finger print sensor sat at the log in screen not able to go into windows after upgrading their Vista 64bit to Win7 64bit .
