I'm running Windows 7 64bit. Is there a known issue and/or solution to the fact that sometimes the cd drive just stops working? It literally freezes and cannot be opened unless the computer is restarted. Thanks.

I have the same problem with mine. I definitely used to happen more often with the Beta (build 7100) but now I'm using RTM and perhaps 1/10th of the time it freezes up on me too. Quite frustrating.

I have encountered this problem multiple times in the past few days (since upgrading to W7 ult). Any fixes here? Drivers? I have updated them all per the ASUS website, but it still freezes pretty frequently (or runs full out but you just cant access it via My Comp or eject it). This is really, really irritating. Thanks.

Now that the real Win 7 drivers are on the ASUS website, have you used them? I still have the mismash of drivers from various sources and have no DVD drive issues.

    Cheers,

I don't know if you've found a solution to your problem, but either way, it would be good if it was posted here.

What you have to do is update the firmware for you DVD drive.
    Go to

    ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-

and search for the HLDS GSA-T50L firmware.

You probably have the old SR04 firmware. The update is very simple, you don't even have to choose which OS you are using....Just run the EXE, wait for it to finish and your problems will be over.

I hope this helps anyone who is searching for a solution to this problem. (not being able to write CD's and DVD's, continuous spinning of the drive, etc)
