I just got my laptop a few weeks ago. This laptop would freeze about every 3-7 seconds in game for about a half second, just enough to screw me up completely as I play FPS games. I figured it was because of the bloatware so I installed my own Vista (Ultimate). It was fine until last night. Now it's doing the exact same thing and im unsure why. Im not really running anything that Asus offeres (P4G, touchpad driver) the only thing im running of asus' is the chipset driver and sound driver, Im using LCDHype for the OLED display. Any suggestions? Thanks

P.S. I know it's the laptop because it does the same thing in CSS, COD4, and also 3DMark 06

    Checklist for this :

    1. Is your CPU Throttling?
    2. Is the GPU downlocked?
    3. Is your RAM okay?
    4. Is you HDD okay?
    5. Is your system defragged?
    6. Do you have the most stable driver for your GPU around?

    1. No, Because when I play CSS the graphs show my CPU to be about 50-60%
    2. I don't believe so because I wouldn't be getting the same score in 3DMark 06 as others if it was downlclocked.
    3. Ran Memtest and all appears good
    4. Ran HDD diags and again, all appears good
    5. I wouldn't think I would need to defrag it since the OS was installed on a newly formated and partitioned drive a week and a half ago
    6. I have the official NVidia Drivers that they came out with. When this first happened on the Vista Home Premium from Asus I was using Dox's drivers

This really sucks. I hope I can find a way to fix this :(

Also as a side note, I installed and used Windows 7 for about 3-4 days and so far that hasn't done it yet. I might have to go back to Windows 7 if Vista continues to do this :(

Try going to NV and downloading their official Beta notebook drivers and see how that works.

Also, install Direct Console, P4G, make sure you have all 3 ATK drivers.

I know you dont want to use the asus programs but direct console controls the lights on the back of the lid, you can disable them and p4g talks with it also to control the overclocking stuff... Just get the latest ver of everything... You can even have the touchpad drivers if you want. those dont cause system lag, just keyboard typing misses...

I have had 3 G50v's and got a 4th inbound from Asus from exchanging one of them...

Never had this problem. I installed vista ult x64 on all of them, downloaded latest chipset and wifi drivers and storage drivers direct from Intel, got everything else from latest asus FTP servers... Got latest desktop video drivers and modded to work with notebook and all has been well... My only issues are they type lag from the touchpad issue... But the games dont lock up or anything for any amount of time

Yes I do. Is that an issue?

And I am using the official Beta Drivers from Nvidia, so that can't be it :(

Are the ATK drivers and direct console that important?

    The ATk drivers are...

You need all 3 of them on it... They are bridges for the hardware to talk correctly to the software...

Should have ATKgeneric, ATK hotekey and I forgot the other one... they are not programs that run so dont worry about that... The direct console will be a program the runs but hey its not that big of a memory eater and it controls some hardware too... The power program which I myself dont like neither also works with direct console and in the end I had to load it also... Just try them, got nothing to lose as you already are not very usable as is.

Okay, I have an update. I booted into Windows 7 (I dual boot) and with Everest running I didn't get any freezing at all. However in Vista I was still getting the random freezes. I then disabled Everest in Vista and wala! Freezes are gone. Does anyone know what would cause this in Windows Vista but not 7? Thanks for your help guys!

Yes i now know (the hard way) : it's everest GPU/Gmem and shader speeds export to another app (sidebar + LCD in my case). Disable these in Everest ans it will be ok.

I'm very surprised this thing happens only in vista... Is it possible to confirm this ?

I have probs in Vista with Music Playback when Everest is running. Especially if I am using the onboard. I have no idea why. I close everest and problems dissapear. This never happened on XP. Seems to be a Vista Everest problem.

Wish I would have read this before I downgraded, but ah I needed to see XP run on this.
