Im not sure if this question has been posted and answered elsewhere, but I sure haven't found it. I've done extensive reading on the laptop and plan on getting it post-graduation, but have a question.

Best Buy lists the specs of the laptop at a 2.13GHz processor, as well as WXGA 1366X768 screen...

now on Cnet it's posted at 2.53GHz processor (same processor) and the WSXGA+ screen with a max 1680X1050 resolution...

What gives? I trust Cnet to get its specs right, so Best Buy must be selling a "downgraded" version of the laptop...
Or is Cnet's review taking into account the turbo-extreme mode (making it reach 2.53 GHz perhaps?) .. but i dont see how the discrepancy in the screen resolutions/ types could be explained. What's going on?

Keep in mind that Cnet produces very shallow and generic reviews. I wouldn't be surprised if they missed key features on a notebook, not to mention typos on their website.

As for the specs, the G50VT-A1 (discontinued) came with a 1680x1050 screen and a 2.53GHz CPU.

Cnet always confuses many items. For instance they once said that an m9700 had a dualcore cpu meanwhile it was a single core turion cpu.

Cnet ALWAYS does this haha i remember one times they were saying the X305 had DDR2 Ram when that was clearly off base. If im not mistaken they it in the Cons until they had to have it changed.

    Alright, silly Cnet..

So how much of a step down is WXGA versus WSXGA+ ? The res. isnt as high as I might like, but if the screen is still pretty nice then I dont see how i CANT pick this up.

    CNET is wrong.

WSXGA+ offers 68% more image size than WXGA

Considering WXGA isnt a single resolution its hard to say that.

While it has 68% more pixels if you understand how those pixels expand in 2 actual directions you would note that say I made a 1366x768 monitor with X pixel density and then made a 1680x1050 with the same pixel density causing the monitor to be larger then the prior. The difference would not be HUGE it might be say 2 inch in each direction bigger. Definite upgrade but if i put it in the opposite perspective its not mind blowing either.

Well its not huge, but very noticeable on a 15.4" screen.

Yeah well in the same screen size you will immediately notice it. If you remember back when 17 and 19 inch 4:3 monitors where commonly the same res 1280x1024. If I made the 19 inch with the same dot pitch as a 17 inch at 1280x1024 it would not only be a larger monitor but have a larger resolution.

Looking at the two in my example you would notice the monitors larger size but not the resolution itself as everything would be the same size on the screen. You have two monitors of the same size with two different resolutions it becomes very obvious.

68% seems like alot, and Im not saying 1680x1050 isnt an upgrade, it really is I will take it please. But 68% makes it seem alot more than it is. 68% more pixel count, but say 34% larger in perspective? Kinda reminds me of the argument on how to measure the displacement of a rotary engine, the RX-7's 13B is techincally 1.3 Litre by traditional standards but in reality its more like double that 2.6 litres.

Yeah, if you measure out the volume, its 1.3 liters. The abnormally high output is due to other factors.

I see what you're saying. But when it comes to the LCD of your average 15.4" laptop, which is what our friend was curious about, then its a big deal.

Yeah, Im just basically curious of how the LCD's gonna look, if the screen will be "flashy" and nice, or just an average laptop screen. I mean, This will be my first lappy purchase - going off to college - and IMO the X768 res doesnt seem as high as it should be for what seems to be a really nice laptop.

Motok's unit had a chi mei screen unlike my au optronics and he was looking into it due to his screen having gotten smashed by a dog bone i believe.

Interesting. I think in the end, its only the connectors that matter. Each laptop seems to have the same two chords, just the ends and lengths on them vary.

Its not an investment i would personally make the X6 is cheaper then upgrading the X5. If i broke the screen however their all around the same price.

..... Mouse is at 25% after 7 days of constant on.... man reviewing this stupid mouse is a pain lol.

and since right now I am keeping my budget under $1000 i wont be upgrading the X5 (sadly, not even the cpu) right off the bat, probly not for a year or so at least. So also the X6 is out of my range..

unless anyone wants to make a $300 USD donation?
    anyone? bueller? bueller?

MX Revolution, Logitechs 100 dollar, dual wheel, wireless, and freespin enabled mouse. Currently doing a test of how long it will operate with out turning it off or charging it. A review back in 2006 clocked it at 3 to 4 days, with 8 hours of use a day I am at 7 days already.

If you cant afford the X6 yeah, wait a year like I was going to and when the new architecture comes out see if you cant nab a T9900 for cheap. For me the screen isnt so important, its a gaming note book, but i do office work on it as well, someone more oriented to needing screen space for programming and graphic design would care.
