Hey i am new in the notebook world i do know some stuff about computers but well i am not sure what to do here

my problem is the decision on what to buy

    Asus G50VT-X5
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9173262&type=product&id=1218044029168

    or

    Asus G50VT-X1
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4623267&csid=ITD&body=MAIN#detailspecs

it seems like the x5 is a little bit better with a faster HDD and the resolution

ofc i will manly use it for gaming how much will the diff. in the 2 laptops be visible in the end ?

would it be worth it to get the x5?

they both have the same hdd, screen reso, and ram...both are ddr2 ram...
    They only difference is below:

    X1= 2.26ghz higher cpu and a 6 cell battery
    x5=2.13ghz cpu and a 9 cell battery
They both perform the same when gaming and the x5 can be overclocked to 2.3 with the push of a button with directconsole which is a program asus has been using and shipping laptops out with...

I'd go with the x5 not cause I have one but honestly you really dont want to sacrifice a 9 cell battery for .1ghz more of processing speed...Especially when the x5 goes up to 2.3

The main difference between the two is the battery and the paint job, pick whatever appeals to you more.

EDIT: Oh, it's a refurb. I would recommend against a refurb machine. Probably fine, but I'm paranoid like that.

Amazing how many errors there still are regarding different G50VT SKUs online.

The x5 has a better battery and can easily surpass the extra 100mhz the X1 is giving you. Only compromise is the "paint job".

I have the cpu overclocked to 2.45Ghz the GPU is running the GTS BIOS overclock, with screen at full brightness I can play crysis for an hour before it hibernates. The X1's 6 cell can't pull that off.

That said one processor or another im putting a P8600 in this when i can find one cheap and see if i can get 2.7 out of it.

The X-1 does not have DDR3 that is a Bestbuy Typo.

    The X-5 Has a 9 Cell battery the X-1 has a 6 cell

The X-1 has a slightly faster CPU in mhz but the X-5 has a higher Cache size i believe.

The X-1 i BELIEVE has a 5400 RPM HD while the X-5 for certain has a 7200 RPM HD

Do not believe ANYTHING listed spec wise for ANY computer on bestbuys website it is the most error ridden website on the internet for PC sales period. With Tigerdirect placing a close second =p.

When you buy the refurb it's likely only coming with a short 90 or 30 day warranty and from Tigerdirect not ASUS. I would HIGHLY reccomend any refurb that does not come with a warranty identical to a new machine like Apple and Dell both offer.

Cache is the same on P7xxx and P8xxx processors. The best buy typo is on the hdd as well and i never saw ddr3 listed, i saw lower speed ddr2 listed but either way there both typo's.

Its been said in 10 threads since ive joined this site, 9 cell battery versus 100 Mhz, Ugly versus Pretty. Take your pick.

I wasn't positive on the Cache size. Thanks for the correction. I do prefer the look of the yellow lightning myself over the blue though.

thats pretty much why i picked the x5 over the x1 because the looks i perfer the lighting bolts and colors than the x1 colors to me looks alot better at first i thought it was gona be ugly but when i saw it right in front of me i had to get it :)

and the extra 100mhzs that the x1 has aint nothing ony shows on bench marks if even that.

and the 2nd was because 9cell battery i get about 3hours to 3hours and 30min when i use the battery option setting.

which i was suprized because its a gaming laptop usely they get alot lower than that.

well my dell 9300 with the 7800gtx did and that had a 9cell to which ony got like 1hour to 2hours if im lucky and turn everything down 2hour and 30min.

Modern laptops and chipsets down throttle and im not just talking about the CPU. The GPU downclocks to 160 Mhz and the PCI-Express Bus drops to 1x under idle and 2D modes. The entire centrino / centrino 2 platform is built around this energy saving idea.

But yeah the battery life is great, With GPU, CPU overclocked and brightness to max i got an hour in crysis before hit hit 10%. Im getting ready todo a stock setup low power run of crysis and see what i get.

Thanks to your advice, I am a proud new owner of the X5. I've been messing with it all day and it's a nice rig for the price. Thanks again....

hmm weird why my dell 9300 gets such bad battery life than this becuase it has a lower cpu 1.74m slower 7800gtx which down clocks to 2d.

but it is a 17in and it has no led diaplay so maybe thats why.

I just completed a boot from battery, stock driver, stock clock medium power no led run of crysis only squeezed 1:18:30 run out of it. Booting from the battery steals at least 5 minutes from it, but is a likely situation if your truly gaming on the go.

Will do a on "standby", on light usage in power saver, and a light gaming run and post in my review. As i predicted when i started the review based on draw, i expected 1 hour gaming on battery and 3 hours during light use.
