Is it just me or does express gate not allow me to use my wifi ?
when i hit the options the part to enable o disable wifi is greyed out it only gives me the option of using my LAN connection through ethernet
is there any way to fix this? and enable use of my wifi?
or is that just the way it is right now?

Could be it's missing some drivers and will be solved in future releases of ExpressGate.
Other users should tell you if it works on their G50. -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
There have been other reports already of ExpressGate not playing nice with WiFi. Eddie's video review over at BTOForums on the M50 or whichever one initially came out with EG was the first time I remember seeing it. I don't know whether he ever posted a resolution, but it's probably a fault somewhere in EG.

I used Express Gate on my G50V-A2 with my Wifi just fine, its not enabled by default you gotta go through a bunch of menu's to get to a place to activate it and put in your encryption key.

Sorry, don't have my laptop with me and I don't remember off the top of my head.

I have the same problem. I believe the problem may lie with the Atheros Wireless adapter and compatibility with the X64 version of the OS. I cannot say for sure, but, I found a link that talks about another Atheros wireless adapter in some detail:
http://www.ubuntux.org/atheros-ar-928x-and-madwifi
The A2 version of the G50V does not use the Atheros adapter, and maybe the same reason why it does not cause any problems.
I have had MANY issues with the Atheros wireless adapter and am considering returning it for the 17" model within the next few days. I have had nothing but trouble with Atheros....Not good! and I will avoid them in the future if i have to. -
Maybe there is hope! I found this link just today and will try it once I get home to install it.

I'll let you know what I discover.
By the way I am curious to know, is the ExpressGate Linux OS 64bit or 32Bit on the G50V Series? -
We are not the only ones having these issues with the Atheros wireless adapter.... see link:
http://www.fixya.com/support/t837314-new_asus_g50vm_x1_from_best_buy
I will add this though, Almost a year ago, I purchased the Wireless "N" USB adapter along with the "N" router, and it has never failed me.
However, I should not have to use it if the notebook specs state the "N" wireless adapter is built in and it is configured to work with the installed OS. -
Yeah well I'm doing a bit of research myself havent found much really but im working on it. I hope maybe we can all come to our own resolution, int he meantime lets all keep posting back here and help each other and everyone else with this issue or just this in mind.
By the way to that last link.
I also have WRT54G Linsys Router, and i had NO problems with the wireless on my G50Vm-X1 at all nothing, i just connected and whoosh ontot he internet no interval renewal or anything like that, make it it just happens to certain laptops of this model? -
it doesent matter the os you are running the express gate bypass the main os. thus allowing you to not worry about incompatibility between 32 and 64 bit os
-
my SSID is blocked, so what i had to do (as stated before in a thread prev) was enter all the relevant data about my connection and it worked like a breeze!
I have a linksys WRT54G also.
and as said before expressgate isnt OS dependent. Its a stand-alone OS. -
Min is open not locked nothing
the problem isnt that it wont connect
the problem is that the option to use wireless instead of wired lan or xdsl is grayed out as in you know not selectable
the option is there it just wont let me and a few other people choose it. -
OK problem solved
on the asus website where you download drivers and such
Download the express gate version "0.8.3.0"
Even tho it says its for VISTA 32
It also works for VISTA 64
i installed it and boom the wifi option is now available and works like a charm -
Well as already said ExpressGate is independent of the OS, with the exception of the bootloader perhaps. So it doesn't matter if it's Vista 32 or Vista 64.

Hey, I'm bumping that thread to check if someone found a solution.
Express Gate perfectly works, but when it comes to detecting a Wifi network, and lauching a network research, nothing appears.
My wifi network is okay, it works when I boot on Vista. I installed the latest version of Express Gate but it doesn't change anything. So far, I just can listen to music and view my pictures on Express Gate.
Anyone has an idea ? :<
