Can you OC the GPU in the G50Vt-X1 i.e. the 9800M GS? My understanding is that the GS is a downclocked GTS so I was wondering if you can bring it up through OC'ing.

Seems like the Gateway with the GTS they OC the GTS crazy for some mid to high 9000 3d scores. I was wondering whats the best the G50Vt-X1 has been able to pull with the CPU (turbo mode) and GPU OC'd.

If so what are some safe numbers to OC the GPU.

    Thanks

there are a few threads floating around with some stats. most say they get around the GTS (some up, some down) but overall, it seems a tad under is better.

still waiting on mine to arrive to see if this is actually true..

Yes you can overclock the 9800m gs and boy watch out this machine performs. go to nvidia's site and download the new driver 179.28 and then download ntune. i have my cpu on turbo and i overclock the gpu 603/836/1425 and my machine scored 9757 on the 3dmark 06 and around 5600 on the cinebench r10.

I installed the 179.28 drivers and ntune, but once I accept the End User Agreement, my X1 blue screens and reboots. Did I miss a step?

someone mentioned that if you use the cpu overclocker and then try to oc the video card it BSOD. i get that in vista 64 as well....

i can oc the vid card in xp but then i dont have the CPU oc'ed

read that if you use the FSB program to overclock the cpu in xp the 945 chipset can get shirty with vid card overclocks... guess we have to wait for a fix.

I only got my overclock up to 560/800/1400 with Nvidia System Tools 6.03

At 570/800/1425, my games would hiccup every 30 seconds. The screen will go blank for a few seconds or just freeze indefinitely.

Any help on getting my clocks higher would be appreciated.

    P.S. I'm on G50vt-x1 with Forceware 179.48
