If I could get a answer for my question I would consider picking it up tomorrow. I think that the overall look of it is cool. I put another link from BB comparing the Gateway, G50 and G70. I am a newbie so I don't know what I am looking at as far as specs. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp;jsessionid=ZHOHS1R0L5LXLKC4D3GVAHQ?id=cat13504&type=page&pageIdentity=searchDriven&useProductString=true&productString=1213046768588*1213046768863*1204332501169&unProductString=1205537513321*1211587727783*1205245968261*1211587728455*1199495191529*1200702543178&h=488

Idk it should handle it...just a compatibility issue i think....

lastdead hey this is a great deal the processor is just slower for a few...it has everything else great though...2.0ghz dual core is plenty then enough for most games...the gpu is good for all games...crysis obviously will have its struggles on high as usual..but it's a great set up for the price...i'd wait though for another model to come out, and wait to see if gentechpc or xoticpc or anyother reseller to have it in stock.....great setup though

i highly doubt any resellers will have this soon though since best buy usually gets exclusives a while before other places

Lol, Thanks. I am checking out the G70 on Youtube now. So in your opinion is this better than the 6860fx?

hard to say...i dont know much about the new 9700gt, but the 8800gts in the fx is unreal...that lappy is also a good deal...but im not a fan of gateway for issues they gave my family in the past years...asus is my favorite...id have to see benchmarks from a 9700gt versus a 8800gts...but i think a gts would own

yeah the 8800gts is significantly better but the laptop is also much heavier and larger with a weaker cpu and RAM

I know...the Gateway was about 3lbs heavier if I remember correctly. That's one of the reasons that I was leaning toward the Asus, plus I like the styling better than the Gateway.

When I spoke with the sales rep at my BB, they were basically clueless about all, but the very basics of the computers that they had. One sales person didn't even know that the 6860 was exclusive to them. That didn't inspire confidence when dropping over $1000 for a computer.

Here is somebody's review based on a BB visit.

Pros: small form factor, excellent gpu, ram, hdd,

Cons: cpu is only t5750 with 667 FSB

"Overall this is the best laptop I have seen. the price is excellent, and the specifications are amazing. I played with it at best buy right when it was setup on display and it is very fast. it also allows the user to overclock the FSB from 667 to 733, which boosts cpu speed from 2.0GHz to 2.2GHz. the laptop is also very good looking and lightweight, making it perfect for just about anything. it also has a centrino 2 chipset, which allows support for upgrading to many high end processors with up to 1066 FSB, should you decide to do so. gaming performance is also excellent with the 9700gt, averages a 6800 3dmark 06 score. the only thing im not sure of is battery life, but im sure since its based on the centrino 2 platform it should be decent."

You can probably turn the lights off in the settings somewhere. I think the orange and black looks good IMO.

The pics don't do it justice. It's a black finish, the pics make it look like a washed out gray. It would look better if just the logo glowed.

I'm gonna have to go into BB and check this rig out. Specs don't say anything about Bluetooth though (NBD to me, but would like to have if available). Got a $150 BB giftcard too, which makes this laptop more attractive to me as well. I have no problem with the color scheme, orange is one of my favorite colors and really color is the last thing I look at in a laptop.

Just wanna let you guys know that the retailers are under NDA for the "real" models and you can expect some very serious upgrades when it comes out.

One thing we should have all noticed is that the new M50Vm is based on the new Montevina Platform, and that this G50Vm-X1 is not....

So its not a real Vm at all but the real version will be.....

All the other issues that lack with this model are corrected. So good things will come to those who wait trust me.

It isn't? I'm pretty sure the chipset is montevina and the cpu can be upgraded since it is an Intel® PM45 chipset, link if i am wrong?

I want to wait...but I need a computer before August 28th. I would hate to order something different and then have this become available before then. I know you can't help me with that so I dont know why I quoted you. You have a guess of whether or not they will be available before the end of August?

Yeah PM45 is the new chipset, but without the faseter cpu & ram its totally pointless.

Its like upgrading your honda into a corvette and then putting the honda motor in it.

Not sure, depending on what your needs are the M50Vm is out tho and thats honestly the one I think I would get. Not as much gaming power due to a lower gpu but everything else is MUCH better, and I like the looks much more.

exactly so you can still manually upgrade to a newer processor for ~$250 more still putting the laptop at ~$1,500....after that all the parts in it would be on par or superior to the other mid range laptops

Like I said it depends on the persons needs. I much prefer the M50Vm, larger hdd, faster ram, better cpu, MUCH better looks.

    Each notebook has a function.

    M series = Media
    G series = Gaming

But you can still do media on the G, and Gaming on the M to lesser extents. Depnding on your primary goal you go from there.

I do more media stuff than gaming and the 9600gs is good enough to let me play my games so thats all that matters. I cant sacrifice the rest of those things just for the better gpu, and call me shallow but I could not use this flashy black and orange laptop.... I know the offical G50Mv will still be flashy but by god I hope they have a good color scheme atleast.

Between this Best Buy model and the offical M50Vm I would choose the M50, but soon the offical G50Vm will be out and with its upgrades it may make me go to the other side.

Ya I have been strongly considering that and the Sager 2096. The ASUS has less gaming power and a lower res screen but the Sager is but ugly compared to the Asus. I really cannot decide what the better buy is. The Sager looks better on paper but I don't know.

Yeah sager makes a good machine and they have a loyal fanbase, but they make bricks lol.

I like my C90S on the outside but not so much on the inside as far as looks (but the screen & keyboard are perfect) the M50 tho looks so great inside and out, I would be so happy sporting that thing. I would actually be able to own it without the constant urge to mod or paint it.

so what's the actual problem with this non official G50 on bestbuy? dunno honestly.. will the battery life be lower.. as regarding the gpu on the g50vm is it worth cancelling my order on the m50vm and pick the g50vm @ bestbuy whatwould you guys do.
    The m50vm-b1 has
    Intel CPU CORE 2 DUO MOBILE T9400 2.53GHZ FSB1066MHZ 6MB

    the g50vm-x1

    2.0ghz - 2mb cache fsb 667mhz so I think that's pretty much a downside
the only good thing is the GPU that's all

should I cancel my order.. and sacrifice a lower CPU ? I'm going to arrive to the us the 27th and gonna stay a week

Will Best Buy upgrade the laptop's CPU for you, or do you have to do it yourself? I might cost more than just $250 is you are going for a nicer Intel upgrade, if you can indeed upgrade it. I had always thought the T5750 wasn't a Montevina chip though, I thought I saw it in older laptops? Meh. I dunno.

I wouldn't consider this though, it only has that Best Buy warranty, and I don't particularly care for Best Buy. Circuit City has a nice warranty 3rd party they go though, I think it's Citi Assure or something. They have actual tech people answer the phone who know what they are doing (personal experience with something that broke from Circuit City).

Im pretty sure that if you change the cpu on the best buy model you can kiss your warrenty goodbye. However if you change it back as long as there are no seals/stickers to break they will probably never be the wiser.

I had a feeling. Yeah, though, I wonder if they do come with those void warranty tapes, as it's only getting a warranty through Best Buy? I dunno.

That's a good point, but would it even be easy to do so with keeping that tape seal thing intact?

Might be worth it for what it is, but those lights look weird. It's kinda like pointing out that you don't have an Alienware or something. That's what came to mind. xD

Its a solid laptop for the budget gamer/15.4 inch crowd who need to buy at retail but I find the total package lacking just to get a few more FPS on high for some games.

Im pretty sure you can turn off the lights but not 100% sure, I know you have a ton of options for them tho via the software. Im not a fan of the lights myself. In my younger days I would have thought it to be cool, but these days its all about sleek & stylish without being extreme or wild.

Before I would really seriously consider buying this tho I would wait for some hands on reviews, there is a thread going on in the gaming sub forum and from what they say there the 9700GT maybe is not the greatest card out there, more of mid range and not high end.

Im sure as usual all 3 of our main retailers on the forums will give us some reviews of the new unit when they get there hands on it, then you will be in a much better place to make a informed decision on if this is worth the money or not, also you will be able to compare it to the full fledged A1 & B1 models and not regret not waiting for them.

I did, I said I would stick with the M50 but it depends on what your goal is. You never answered my question. Whats more important to you? Pure game performance or overall laptop performance?

Do you mind the looks? Slower Ram? Slower Cpu?

Well honestly I'm not an intensive gamer, like about to matter a couple more fps, how does the 9700 compare to the 9600 on the m50vm . Yes I do actually matter 2mb cache on the g50 towards 6mb l2 cache on the m50vm and bus speed as well there's not comparison there. That's why I actually asked about the vidcard if there's a huge difference..or couple points

It will probably be about 10fps I say on a new game on high. Im pulling that number out of nowhere. Still you understand your trading pretty much every aspect of the computer just for the gpu. If your not getting it just for gaming the M50 is better.

Also the 9700gt is pretty much equal to the 8700gt so I would sujjest you go google some benchmarks of the 8700gt vs 8600gt since the 8600gt is about equal to the 9600gs and that was a common comparison just about 4 or 5 months ago and benchmarks should be easy to find.

I wasn't seriously considering it, but I was just curious as to upgrading the CPU, that is all. xD

I don't think I even could afford it with my budget along with tax, I definitely couldn't. Of course, I don't want to break the tradition of the computers I have being ordered online or by phone. xP

I think that the 9700M GT might not even be much better than the 9600M GT myself. Might be a few frames per second better, if even that. I'm not even an intense gamer myself, most of what I would play would probably be underwhelming even for the card in that new F8 laptop (Radeon Mobility 3650HD or whatever).
