Swapping the processor is extremely easy in this asus, took longer to take out all the screws to take off the bottom cover than to install the processor. Just remember that changing the processor will void whatever warranty you have with best buy.
-
Someone have some photos of their G50VM-X1 laptop, as a wallpaper to show display or the leds turned on?? Or some pics that have taken from it.
This in order to see the how bright is the screen and the resoultions for this laptop. Also the leds turned on to see how cool are they. -
Maybe you did, but if you didn't check the reviews, there are three of them.
-
All the pics from this post and the BB reviews only showed blue screens not a coolest wallpaper in theirs desktop in order to see the quality of the resolution.
And there is one with the leds turned on, but is not the same in a dark room or in a room with low lights.
I heard that didnt have the greatest display ever but if seem nice it should be ok. -
yea im not concerned with voiding my ****ty BB warranty, i wouldnt wanna take it back there to get repaired anyway, chances are i wouldnt see it for weeks and itd be worse off in some other way when i got it back, but thanks that was my main concern when buying this about the processor, well that and the fact that i must have a weak battery or something cause that single light from the express gate button is draining my battery almost 10 percent when its turned off overnight, its ridiculous.
-
You may want to wait on swapping out that processor (or buying the current model at Best Buy), because there is a new model due out at the end of the month. We buy direct from an Asus distributor and just got word on a new model due out... here are the specs as I was given:

Should run about $550-$600 more for the added upgrades (like the second drive and processor) but may be worth it. I am looking to upgrade from my G1S and may go this route myself. -
its already out man, check around...and its only $200 more than the A1, 500 more than best buy X1 -
EDIT: what's with this?: WXGA widescreen display with Asus Splendid video enhancement technology and 1366 x 768 resolution. That won't work for me. -

Most games that have 16:10 also have 16:9 what I would use is instead of 1280x800 for 16:10 I would go 1280x720 for 16:9.
1366x768 would be fine too assuming your frame rate stays high. -
The add-ons on that laptop (-A2) is the blue-ray with a price from newegg 1900 dllsagainst BB model is +700 dlls and for the -A1 +300dlls. In that case is more feasible the -A1

hey guys, im new and im pretty much interested in the Asus G50Vm-X1 model, but i found it only on Best buy. It was 1099 on a sale
, but now its 1249 :/.
Dont you know any other shops in US or anywhere, that have the X1 in their offer ? Maybe some idea on when it is going to hit the stores for good ? BTW sorry for my english
im not native
hope to get an awnser
thx
P.S. I'm thinking about buyiong an G1S instead but i would rather buying the G50 Vm-X1 -
I think that the X1 is a specific Best Buy model, so you're not likely to find it anywhere else.
-
Any coolest display wallpaper from any owner of the G50VM-X1? I wish to compare the quality resolution with one photo from them
Thanks, -
Could anyone share some ASUS 650vm-X1 pictures? I'd like more than what Best Buy shows, specially the gaming sidelights.
Also how is the laptop? 1366x768 resolution good or bad? -
hmm then i would like to get back to two things
1. Can they have a sale on them again soon ?
2. The warranty policy - i asked them via e-mail and they anwserd that all the vendors warrantys are kept when buying in best buy. I know that you had a discusion about the warrantys in best buy - anyone knows from first hand how is it in real ?Thx
P.S. oh cmon there got to be more places i can buy it. But i dont know do they modify a base in best buy ( just like a VBI ?) ?I am so into buying this model, there's a catch im not from america so i hope theres that 2 year global warranty and 1 year accidental
-
I'm not sure what they told you, but it's pretty common knowledge on these forums that BestBuy ASUS versions only come with 1 year warranty and no accidental damage protection. So unless this changed for the G50 model, the representatives you talked to via email were either wrong or misleading.
For other places.. try ebay. As I said, AFAIK these ASUS notebooks are custom made by ASUS for BestBuy on the basis of a specific contract between the two parties. That contract also includes different warranty terms. All this is to get a cheaper notebook. So that's why you don't find it anywhere else, it's not sold by anybody else. -
hmm thats not a good information I was hoping to find the X1 somewhere in the internet well i found it on some mexican page but I only k'now english polish a little german so it was hard to read the facts but it was'nt best buy and I had hope
and still have...
Im thinking about an asus G1S but im afraid of the GPU core temperature cuz i heard it can be a problem :/ what do you guys say ? -

ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
It's probably unreasonable to expect either the CS personnel staffing the email inquiries, or the floor staff, to be familiar with (nor will they ever suggest) alternate models in other segments of the retail market (i.e. direct resellers) not stocked by BB and the different specs/warranty terms that are attached to those products.
EBE is correct, but in the strictest terms they weren't wrong or anything else (again, I hate that I'm apparently justifying BB's reply) - it just happens that a better quality version of the same product with better warranty coverage is available elsewhere - but for a price, of course. -
I was at my local bestbuy today replacing a fried UPS for my home office. While strolling around looking for an impulse buy item I decided to swing by the laptops (since tomorrow I am scheduled to reciever my G50v-A1 from gentechpc) and preview my purchase (the exterior at least)...
behold what I saw:
Frakkin' geek squad.... lol -
This is what i asked 'em
"Questions or Comments: i am up to buying a Asus G50Vm-X1 laptop from your store. The ASUS company has a 2 year international warranty and a year accident free waranty . Will I have these warrantys if i'll buy that laptop at Best Buy ?? Please answer ASAP Thx"
this is what I recived:
"I am Fabian with Best Buy, I hope you're doing well.
Let me try to help you with your concern.
Yes, the vendor's warranties are the same. You also have the option to choose for Best Buy warranties and servcie plans.
If you need any further help, don't hesitate to contact us again. Have a great day!
Thank you,
Fabian
Best Buy Customer Care Team" -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
Same response as above - you asked the correct question, but Fabian wasn't paying attention and assumed that BestBuy stocked the same product as Asus distributes through it's regular channels. This is the case with nearly every other electronics product that BestBuy sells via retail in their stores, but in the case of Asus notebooks that assumption was his fatal mistake as Asus makes a BestBuy exclusive model with distinct differences for BB's retail channel; this has been the case since the launch of Asus notebooks in BestBuy with their exclusive version of the G1 in late '06. Not necessarily Fabian's fault that he didn't know this, sitting in his cubicle wherever...
-
Yeah, I wasn't trying to imply that BB are the "bad guys", sorry if that was the impression.
Like ClearSkies, I do not believe that Fabian was willingly misleading you. You know, an email has timestamps, headers and everything and can be used as proof -- so now if you buy the G50VX1 and claim warranty after 1.5 years, with that email, you just might have a case... Of course it's going to be difficult to get them to accept it. And it would be his responsibility for giving you false information. -
Thanks for the photo but, isn't a good image at the laptop screen lol (very sad the work of the geek squad), i'm searching for any wallpaper of the desktop that any owner may have, in order to see all the colors and quality of the lcd screen.
Thanks, -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
You're should probably try to go and see one in your local BB, or just be comfortable relying on other's descriptions. -
Well, I picked up the BB model myself. Yes, I would be MUCH happier with the A1 but I decided I wanted to finance a laptop to help build up some credit. BB does financing.
So far I like it a lot, it plays the hand full of games I play very well so I don't have much to complain about. The screen res is a little low for my taste but with the lower CPU it runs much happier at a lower native res. I did not like the mouse buttons but I have my G5 on here at this point so it doesn't matter. Its more than quick enough for what I need a laptop for right now and is portable enough for me. The one thing that bugs me is when its on an all black screen I can see some shape glowing in the screen that covers a good chunk of the center and yes theres a little light bleed at the bottom.
The one thing I would like to know is if anyone has tried to put a second HD into one of these. It got the spot for it but not the bracket. I don't have a spare SATA laptop drive around or I would just go ahead and toss one in there and the fab some sort of bracket for it out of parts I have laying around. I would guess that it would work just fine but I don't want to go out and blow more money on something I may not be able to use if for some reason its disabled. If it does work, do you think I could buy a caddy for it or am I stuck fabbing something. -
-
Nevertheless until he get the response of his proof of purchase we will now what happen at the end... -
Have any of you others who own this best buy model noticed any significant battery loss from the laptop being off longer than just overnight from that **** express gate button? in under 24 hours like that i usually lose around 10% and that just seems way too high seeing as others ive talked to on here have lost 1 maybe 2 percent over 24 hours.....
-
I've noticed this sort of thing on other laptops without any expressgate
How are you turning off the computer? Hibernate, or shutdown? If hibernate, try shutdown and see if things change. -
I've been seriously looking at this laptop and everyone's info is been very informative. The camera, resolution, and wireless issues are what seem to be the biggest concern. How much should I be concerned.
I noticed everyone was looking for pics and stuff. There is a 4 or 5 part review on youtube see link below for part 1. It just gives the basics.

shutdown, that's the weird thing.
-
I don't know then... unless other users can verify that power drain due to the LED (if I understand it correctly), you might have a faulty battery.

He is trying to sell it off as an UPGRADED x1, because more people know about the bestbuy model and not these, so people would "laugh" at paying more for an x1 on ebay when it is cheaper at bestbuy. My question is IF it actually is an A2, because then i would def buy it at 400 dollars less than actual price. (thinking maybe he bough one and didn;t like it) In someplaces, if you read carefully, the listing claims it is an A2 with an intel extreme processor and 400 gb harddrive. that is NOT an x1. Either way, upgraded x1 or cheaper A2, it is still a good deal that I would buy, but the listing is iffy. I question WHY or HOW did he get his hands on an A2 that he can sell at 1400 in a "sealed box" condition
edit: listing has 10 of these in stock.... im hoping it is the a2 model. emailed person asking to revise post. -
is the X1's screen resolution worthy for gaming?
1366x768 over a 15.6" screen makes me nervous. -
For general use, its so-so... you really dont have much room for multiple windows.
I find that for gaming in general its good. -

There is another version of -X1 at New Egg G50V-X1
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220379
Better CPU, screen size, backpack, mouse and warranty. But a higher price (1399.99). -
Well I bit the bulletabout a week ago and bought the x1. So far so good. I'm a casual gamer so it meets all my needs. I like the led screen with email and IM info. Resolution irks me just a little bit. Sound is not great but use haedphones and external speakers. For the price you can't really beat it with the video card.
