    Hey, I've been looking around for a G51 and it seems to me that all the G51 Retailers/Resellers only offer the G51Vx-A1 without Blu-Ray or Windows Vista Ultimate. Are there any retailers that do offer one or both of those features?

    If no retailers do offer them, is it possible to buy a Blu-Ray Drive and switch it in as a replacement for the DVD-Burner Drive?

    Thanks in advance.

    @Nai

    just ask for the "B2" version, sadly unless you upgrade it yourself (or order from stateside) we don't get customizable versions. They come a1(regular dvd-rw optical drive) or B2 (with blue-ray) which translate to about 200ish+ in price difference. but why would you wanna upgrade your lappy to have blueray, when you can pay just a tad more and get a ps3 slim.
    IME i've only used the blueray player on my laptop "sony vaio" two times tops so i never pick it up on future laptop purchases (until blue-ray replaces dvd format that is )

    In short Yes you can buy and install a BR drive for your G51, the "10 chars" is just to meet the forum requirements of a post not having less than 10 characters.

    Replacing/changing the optical drive on a laptop is probably the 2nd easiest user upgrade next to installing an additional HDD. I would say "the easiest" if it was not for the sometimes trickey but not overly hard task of removing the optical drive faceplate from the current DVD drive so you can put it on the new BR drive.

    Many BR players are available via Ebay and even some Resellers will sell the BR player seperate (I know GenTech will).

    Ok, thanks very much. Also, I'm wondering if it's better to buy the cheaper X1A or X2A and wait to upgrade the processor myself later on.

    The only issue with that is if your plan is to upgrade to a quad I do not believe anyone has verified that either the X1A or X2A will support quads.

    So if you require quad support the A1 is your only choice atm.
