I'm looking to get the G51 but first I would like to know if I can get another 6 or 9 cell battery for under a hundred and where can I get it? Also is the heat bearable on your lap or is a cooler required?

I don't know if you'll be able to find a battery for under $100, but as far a cooler goes, if you are into gaming then yeah, if you want to use it in your lap I would strongly suggest getting a cooler.

Yes, but is it absolutely needed(like to almost prevent burns) or is it just very warm on your lap?

I haven't tried doing a stress test in my lap, but a few occasional temperature rises did start to feel uncomfortable. It might not be absolutely necessary, but if it does get uncomfortable you can always put a book under it.

I use it on my laptop all the time, it can be a tad uncomfortable but only on your left leg, where the vent is. can easily be remedied w/ something between you and the vent.

Based on my experience with playing games with the system on my lap, GPU temperatures rise by 4-6 C which is pretty significant when you're already in the 97C range while the laptop is on the desk. I'd recommend using a laptop cooler if you're going to use it on your lap otherwise you will hit 100+C on the GPU which can't be good for long term use. I will be modding my spare bottom panel, adding a 2nd fan and copper blocks to lower the temps. If you do the aforementioned mods and couple them with an active notebook cooler, you should see max GPU temps in the 70s.

The Edova Xpad is a good passive cooler. Yes, Soviet has converted me to Xpadism.

Aha, alright then. I guess I was somewhat questioning it's performance with the G51. Yours might have shown better results because of all the open ventilation, but maybe it still helps a decent amount either way.

I don't know what condition you're looking for in a battery, but on eBay I landed a 9-cell for $35 shipped with a 2% wear level. Light physical damage (like a dog got to one side of it lol) but hey, I say function over form.

If all you want is be able to support the temperature on your laptop, get a piece of glass to put your laptop onto, and put the glass over a pillow or something,if you are going to use it at home of course.
Also,by using it alone in your lap the components get hotter than it would normally get.

Look particularly at posts 12 and 17.

Not a perfect example, since I have a modded G51 versus a stock G71gx, but still.
