I guess I will be ordering this one as I had to sell my G51 due to economic problems a month ago.![]()
It seems preorder starts Oct 18. Who's getting this great laptop? I know I am, as there is very little I can accomplish with my current Eee!
I hope Ken Lee can help us with any news he gets regarding this lappy, he is the best!

Wait, if someone else has them in stock, and they price match, you could get a free G51J right now!
And Ryzeki, were you the guy with the cat? -
Id still like to know the prices on these things...I keep hearing like $1400, but Im skeptical. -
Any word of a REAL price on this bad boy?
-
Saw somewhere I THINK in the ~$1680's starting.
-
http://www.sparco.com/cgi-bin/wfind2?spn=A8AC205
They already have their price set at $1396.51, but state the normal retail price is $1,499. -
Wow that would be amazing if it was <$1400 considering the G51 with the P8700 and a 320 GB HDD is $1400 right now.
-
im sticking with my good ol' G51-RX05!!!
-
-
ah yes....well i hope it has a 1080p screen. then i MIGHT consider.....
-
And also the reason why I never continued the Q9000 vs other processors fight.
I think I will preorder and overnight the shipping. I can't wait to have a real computer again. The Eee has served me well, but damm is it slow sometimes.. -

Really hope it's under $1500, its my top budget for a gaming laptop right now. I mean I could higher, but not if it is still using the 260m. I know it's a great card but if I spend more I want it to last that much longer. The i7 is great, but I refuse to be an early adopter of anything expensive. (I have done that way to much iPhone, alienware m15x, etc)

sadly, i leave for boot camp for the marine corps on sunday, so i will be with out my G51 for three month! I am pondering selling it so i can get a new one after....... its either this or a sager. they offer a 15.6 inch with a 280M now! decisions decisions!

xcskiier23,
Good luck in Marine Boot Camp, it sucks. I went to MCRD - so I'm a Hollywood MarineSemper-Fi
I might get this laptop depending on how good the cooling is, either this or the M15x we'll see. -

I don't rep people that ask for rep, especially when they turn face on a W860CU.

i think ill just hold on to my ol lappie right now. i just hope it can play CODMW2!!!!
On another note, I would have to sway towards the Sager too. The cooling is much better, and the new i7's are a 55w TDP! We will have to wait and see what the deal is with these new G51J's! -
You switched to a laptop with a proprietary graphics card and inadequate cooling. I wouldn't say that's exactly a wise choice. That i7 is going to cook the laptop even worse than the current G51. Considering Asus more than likely done nothing to improve cooling, you will be dealing with a laptop that probably throttles or is underclocked like crazy. Have fun! -
Hey confuzshuz, I was wondering where you pre-ordered your G51J. Because I want to get the same one you ordered. Meaning that I want to upgrade the processor to the i7-820 instead of the i7-720. All the websites I have visited for pre-order are all i7-720.

Aight that's where I thought you got it from. I wasn't sure if you switched places. I asked because I thought they only sold the stock asus g51j. But thanks for the info I will probably order mine from them also.
-
man, you guys are putting a lot of faith into the cooling of the G51! I mean, this baby can barley handle a Core 2 Duo CPU! Let alone a Mobile i7! XoticPC test's the sager equivalent to the G51J, and that baby heats up! Keep in mind this has DEDICATED cooling for both graphic card and cpu. Imagine our lowly fan trying to cool off both of those!?!? May God have mercy on the G51J owners lol.

I've seen a screenshot where the W860's i7 (a 920XM by the way) doesn't go past low 60s after a run of Crysis.
-
The one that you saw skiier was probably with poorly applied paste and/or the heatsink was making poor contact with the CPU.
-
Mine will include a 2 year warranty + 1 year extended warranty and buyer protection since I used my Amex card. If the computer has problems within 3 years, I'll get something else. I know the computer will run hot. But after reading all the mods being done to g51, I feel pretty confident that I should be fine with heat issues.
