Hello, I think a have a problem with CPU-Z and CoreTemp in my Asus G51Jx (Core i7 720QM / 6GB DDR31066 / GF GTS360M / HDD 500GB 5400RMP, Windows 7 Home Premium x64). The problem: when I am benchmarking (for example, Doom 3 Timedemo, Quake 4 Timedemo, FEAR, RE 5) CPU-Z and CoreTemp shows differents clocks speeds (CoreTemp 1.7 Ghz for example and CPU-Z 2.6 / 2.8 / 2.4 Ghz). I have some questions and I hope you can help me :

    1) Concerning CPU-Z and Coretemp, I think CPU-Z is not working 100 % accurate, and I can´t even read voltages (I am using latest 1.54 x64 version)

    1) In the Asus official site the G51Jx shows 10640 3DMARK06 points, well, the maximun that I achieved was 9574 (with 197.75 drivers and Turbo Extreme activaded in High-Performance mode), why so much difference ??

    2) When I tried Prime95 for 10 minutes to control my temps, I noted that even in TurboExtreme mode, the clock speed only went to 1.698 Ghz (with four cores at 100 %), it should go to 2.6 Ghz or similar right ??

    3) I used CristalCPUID to undervolt my NB, I am using 1.188v (I saw that 1.250v is the default volt), maybe I should go back to the default voltage ??

    4) Can I control 100% the clock speed of the cores and leave a specific clock that I want ?? For example, I want to use my NB at 1.6 Ghz all the time, because I do not use the battery. I am using the High-Performance profile, but when I do nothing the clocks underclocking to 928 Mhz.

    5) GPU-Z shows that my video card is always using the default clocks, I mean, it should underclocks when I do nothing right ??

I was configuring and tweaking my notebook following various guides from this site, so I think I have a decent config right now (for example, I uninstalled a lot of useless programs and services).

Well folks, thats all, I hope you can help me.

Thanks and sorry for MY BAD ENGLISH :S

These programs cannot read the voltage of our mobile i7's. It has to do with the changes in design between the core 2 series and the ix series.

Not sure if its the program, or ASUS locking the BIOS. Probably the latter.

    1) In the Asus official site the G51Jx shows 10640 3DMARK06 points, well, the maximun that I achieved was 9574 (with 197.75 drivers and Turbo Extreme activaded in High-Performance mode).

Could be because you are using a different version of 3dmark, or could be that you undervolted your i7. Beware, undervolting can actually increase heat if you move it too low, which could cause the processor to underclock itself.

    2) When I tried Prime95 for 10 minutes to control my temps, I noted that even in TurboExtreme mode, the clock speed only went to 1.698 Ghz (with four cores at 100 %), it should go to 2.6 Ghz or similar right ??

No. Your processor is rated at 1.6 when you are using all 4 cores. It overclocks to 2.8 when you are using only one core, 2.3 ish with 2 cores.

Your readings of 1.7 show that extreme turbo is actually overclocking the processor.

Also, remember that 2.3 in an i7 is considerably faster than 2.3 in a core 2 duo because of the design difference. clock speed is not everything.

    3) I used CristalCPUID to undervolt my NB, I am using 1.188v (I saw that 1.250v is the default volt), maybe I should go back to the default voltage ??

If your temps are below 75 ish in normal circumstances (i.e., not prime 95) don't undervolt this processor, its very finicky with it's dynamic clocking.

You don't need full clocks when you are doing nothing.

But, in power 4 gear, set to maximum performance, 100% - 100%.

This will increase your power consumption and heat with no real benefit.

    5) GPU-Z shows that my video card is always using the default clocks, I mean, it should underclocks when I do nothing right ??

    Install powermizer switch.
