Wondering if anyone likes the look of the blue alien design, i wasn't sure if i liked it (as much as the BB version) but this was a more powerful laptop so i had to choose performance over looks... I recently ordered an Asus G51VX-X2A from Newegg (check my sig for info and specs) and i love the specs of it, but i am not sure if it was worth the design... maybe im really dumb for thinking this...![]()

No, I don't like it. It reminds me of Alienware. The only G51 design that I like right now is the one with the white display lid. I think it looks really sleek without being too loud either.
-
To be honest, I don't really like the new designs Asus is putting on the G series. The white lid is tolerable, but the alien looking one looks juvenile to me. I hope in the next iteration of the g5x, they go back to solid black like my g50vt X6.
It may be possible to replace the lid with one from the e-store, but it is expensive and may not be compatible. -
Thanks guys, thats exactly what i wanted to hear... just kidding, whatever. I dont mind the look i was just wondering. I was also wondering if anyone had any benchmarks or gaming test scores... for my version of the g51? And weylyn + soviet sunrise, do you at least think the components of my system are good?
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
No, I don't think they are good. I think they are the worst specs I've ever seen on a notebook.
-
Umm... im hoping that was a joke... anyone care to clarify... im sorta a noob at all this high tech computer stuff.
-
Ignore him dude.
Your specs are very good. Tell us what games you play and we can inform you better. I can't compare it to mine since I did a bit of overclocking -
Well, i didn't want to admit this, but my current laptop, untill i recieve my new one, is an acer aspire 5700z. I love to game, but for whatever reason my parents got me this laptop and took my desktop, idk. 1.6ghz 1ddr2 120 hdd 5200rpm... you get the idea. So i have been looking for a super amazing laptop for a while, and i want it to last me minimum 3 years. I play games like cod 4 combat arms, and fps's in general. I have never experienced the power of a good laptop so i have no idea what to expect. (my current laptop plays games at lowest settings, 800x640 resolution, at around 8 fps) yeah i know that sucks, thats why i got this "good" laptop.

From my observation, the G51 is becoming very popular lately. In the arcade at school today, I saw a whole lot of new G51's on the tables, all of which have been bought from Best Buy judging by their design. I felt a sigh of relief as Macbooks are slowly being outnumbered by real performance notebooks, although mainly flying the Asus flag, in the arcade. I'm just happy there isn't anyone with an M17x on this campus yet.
bsbear. I didn't realize you're a new user. Stick around the forum a bit and you'll soon learn how to distinguish when I'm being sarcastic or not. As for munchkin-man, he just likes to stalk me and nitpick my posts. Moving from an Acer Aspire 5700z to the Asus G51 is a very, very big step forward. You will get more than a good three years out of that machine providing that you treat it like a lady. You will be able to play COD 4 very smoothly on this machine with fairly decent settings. -
Thanks a lot, thats what i was really looking for. I used to have a fairly good desktop, one that in it time would be considered mainstream, so i actually downgraded with this laptop, for some reason my parents thought the laptop was better... idk but i love to game and i haven't been able to (basically at all) in the last year, which is how long i have had this laptop. So i wanted to get rid of it as soon as possible. I also had been looking for an affordable gaming laptop, something a little less that the alienware , m15x. And this was perfect for me in every way, except of course i didn't like the blue alien design.
Also just for haha's, what laptop are you sporting, or desktop for that matter? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
The G51 is a lot of bang for the buck. For a man who has been fragging on a legacy Acer, your world will be blown away even when you open up the shipping box just to take a gander at the notebook.
My biggest suggestion to you right now is that you get plenty of sleep the night prior to the day when UPS delivers the notebook. I can guarantee that you are not going to be getting any sleep that night. -
-
That is great, i am so happy to hear that i will not be disapointed with this laptop. Approx. how long will it take me to set up windows and have it running well enough for me to install a game and start fragging (expecting that i don't faint from the above 10 frames per second)
Edit: Ok thanks Shirokuma. Ill do that now.
Another thing, my laptop has been sitting in processing for the past 1 and a half hours, it was originally bought, at 6:04 local time in california im guessing, today. How long does it take to be processed? -

Ok thanks. And i have no experience with a totally new laptop, my acer came pre-set up with windows and such. So i was wondering what will i have to do once i open up the box and power up for the first time?
-
Lethal Lottery Notebook Betrayer
I think it actually looks really cool, a LOT better than the white transformers toy lid from bestbuy. I mean its a gaming laptop. Gaming itself is pretty "juvenile" I mean if you want to game in disguise get a sager.
-
Lethal Lottery thanks a ton for the back-up, i was starting to think that the laptop i just ordered was amazing but i could never take it out in public in fear that one of my friends would mock me for the rest of my lol. Half-kidding... But i am still wondering about my other question, how much time will it take for me to set everything up, after my first power on, and have windows running fine?
-
Nothing is Real Notebook Evangelist
0 seconds unless you want to do a system restore which would be about an hour.
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
For me, it takes 12 hours straight to set up the "Soviet Special." However, because I've been experimenting a lot with Windows Seven, I usually take up to a whole day and sometimes into the next day.
-
bsbear congrats on your purchase. Just bought one last night myself. Went out of processing and into shipping today. Might take like 18 hours or so, but it will ship tomorrow at the latest. I was all concerned and called like 50 times to make sure they knew I ordered it. I'm upgrading from a dell dimension 9100 desktop so I think my world is about to be rocked as well. Hope all goes well with your g51vx-x2a man

Let's get a game going on Steam once both of you get your notebooks up and running.
-
You need to see it for your self, and the lights on the side when off look like chrome, while on they look like glowing parts not lights,it is verry cool. -
I actually have the G51VX-A1 with the black/blue lid and honestly it looks much better in person than in the pictures, it doesn't glow, its not something bright or anything flashy, I was having second thoughts at first because of the design, but now I could care less.
It looks better than I thought it would and its no where near as flashy as it looks in the pictures -
FatManChan - same to you, i'm liking all this x2a support. I would love to game with you guys, that sounds cool. I also purchased a microsoft sidewinder x8 with my laptop because i had been using a microsoft old optical mouse that has to be something like 200 dpi at the highest.
On a side note- i thought that on the first power up of an asus laptop, you had to spend a ton of time configuring windows and installing drivers, and such. For right now i am planning on leaving everything stock. So does that mean i will be able to frag instantly after i boot it up the first time. (of course this is after i install the game)
Edit: Had to edit my post because of so many replies. Thanks to everyone who has helped me out. NBR is a great resource and i will need to recommend you guys to all my friends. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Atleast it's cool blue. The orange and red design on the G50's was an eyesore.
-
yeah i actually started looking at new laptops from the day that i got my "new cool acer"... and one of the laptops i looked at was that one... the orange crap. I realize im being a hypocrite becuase i didn't like other people disliking the blue design. But yeah, i would not ever touch that thing, so when the g51 came out i was delighted. I think ill like the blue design idk.
-
Let's definitely get a steam game going. What games you guys want? I have Day of Defeat: source, TF2, Half Life: Deathmatch. Can't buy any since I now owe my parents 232 bucks for the X2A
-
Lol, admitting once again that im a noobie at this stuff, (hopefully soon when i get my new x2a ill learn a ton more) what exactly is steam...
-
A gaming thingy (my b est description) Basically it compiles games together and also sells them. There's a whole community so you can meet people and stuff.
@Soviet: We should start a NBR group on steam for everyone on the forum to join -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Uh oh, it looks like someone is going to be rocked even more once he finds out what Steam is.
http://store.steampowered.com/
There are already two official NBR Steam groups. A third one wouldn't hurt. But you guys are free to join [TNG], The Notebook Gamer. http://steamcommunity.com/groups/thenotebookgamer -
Haha, checking it out right now.
-
Sounds good. Add me on steam (FatManChan) should be playing some day of defeat tomorrow if you want to come kick my
-
wow thats super amazing cool, is it like direct download, or do they send you the game in the mail, if its download i am so very very very amazed and happy
-
Direct download. Best service in the world
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Steam allows you to download the complete game content onto your computer so you can play right away. You also have the option to make a backup of your game installation on a tangible medium such as DVD's or on another hard drive.
-
OMFG!!!!!!!!! This is amazing!!! I have these visa gift cards that i didn't have any need to use, but i have been wanted to buy new games forever, and my parents would not let me get them by mail or shop, so now i can get them!!! This is amazing, first think i am doing when i get my laptop is getting a new game. What is the best game for up to or under 25$ including everything, tax if there is any... I have one 25$ gift card i want to use up.
Edit: Wait, won't this use up like all of my HDD, that would be a huge downside... -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Counter Strike: Source. Get the game, then talk to me.
-
That's the other game I have CS:S. We should get a game going when me and bsbear get our laptops. You in guys? And wow we've filled up 3 pages with our chat
-
I was actually really looking into that game, only have one concern, graphics. Are the graphics on the game good? And also, how much HDD will it take up?
If someone can tell me how good the graphics are on CSS i will definetly get it. -
Graphics are fine. and it won't take up much HDD space at all. I have steam with 10 games and like another 5 I bought from walmart. On a 500GB drive I've only filled up around 200 or so. You'll have more than enough space
Not like steam has every game installed with it. They get downloaded when you buy them same as installing a game just you never need a cd -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
The GTX 260M can play CS:S at a constant 60fps with all maxed settings at 1920x1200.
Ad me when you want to play. http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197979343959 -
So approx. how much space will it take up, if its more than like 5 gigs, i will be reluctant to buy, that just seems like an enormous amount of space.
Edit: Thanks soviet thats what i was wondering. Thats good, i think ill get it, it looks really good. Can someone tell me the storyline of the game and if it is single multi. and such? -
CS:S source won't take up much at all. Can't say exactly how much but waaaaaay under 5 gigs
-
I keep seeing your sig and it makes me want the mail to come faster...
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
-
Haha, lol i know. Hopefully when i get my laptop i will post some pics/review/benchmarks and stuff. But idk i was just reading some reviews and CS:S looks perfect, except for the fact that they said there are a lot of hackers... somehting that i really dont like in a game...
Edit: Is the game really enjoyable, like could i play it for say an hour of a day, and then the next day want to play it for another hour... -
There's not too many hackers. And Soviet hope you don't mind 15 year old on mics. That'd be me, but at least my voice isnt' all squeeky
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Yeah, I do mind 15 year olds on the mic. It gives me all the more reason to gun you down personally.
bsbear. Hackers aren't too much of a problem in CS:S. Most of the popular servers have atleast one admin on standby and they won't hesitate to whack you with the mallet. Only at midnight will you see some servers be poisoned by some asshat hacker when the admin isnt on. -
Damnit Soviet I can't tell if that's your signature sarcasm or if you're serious. Oh well. Never had a working mic jack in the first place. And probably lost my mic awhile ago
