    Hi all,

I am new to buying Asus laptops and I am a bit confused.

I've read many people say that the G51Vx isn't the greatest 15 inch out there but it is by far the best bang for your buck. I've decided to get one but is the only place I can get one from is BestBuy (I live in the usa)?

I saw a thread with someone who bought one but got it from newegg (I love newegg) but I can't find the G51Vx on their site.

I also noticed on Asus's website they have the specs for the laptop have many options for processors but BestBuy doesn't even tell me which processor is in it, except that it is Core™2 Duo 2.0 ghz.

Is there any other companys I can buy the laptop from other than BestBuy? The model for ~1k usd.

Sorry if I am asking a n00b question!

The $1000 G51 model is only available from Best Buy. However, there are many Asus reseller in the US that also sell the G51 that is better spec'ed, but it's also more expensive.

Check the list or reputable resellers from the Asus info booth for more options.

The Best Buy version is a somewhat stripped-down version of the G51 but provides great performance considering its only $1000! It depends on what you want and what your budget is.

You won't be able to get the $1000 model from anywhere other than Best Buy though. Newegg should have a model up before too long - my guess is it will be $1500ish but I really don't know for sure. You can get the more expensive version (G51VX-A1) from other resellers as David mentioned. I'd recommend XoticPC as one, but there are definitely others.

I would have to say the Sager NP8662 is a better buy for what I'm looking for, but it lacks certain things such as the awesome back-lit full keyboard on the G51. Check both of them out, I think it comes down to a matter of personal preference really.

That is one thing really pros on it ..the back lit keyboard (although I can type in dark , yeah point me a hardcore gamer that can't type lol) but anyway , there are times the back-lit will help a lot when you r new to that new laptop(like me transfer from 7811 to W90 ) ....

Besides being backlit, I like the feel of this keyboard compared to the G50vt.

Well.....the thing about it is that even though I can type well and such, sometimes I'm horrendous with keyboards in the dark.

A Catch-22 occurs though since in order to get the keyboard to light up, I have to use the Fn+F6(may be wrong there) to get it up but I can't really see they keys very well since I'm in the dark. I always end up taking a while before getting it right. If I could see clearly and easily pick up the correct key combination then I obviously don't need to use the backlit functionality.
