In looking at the myriad of notebooks on the market today I have finally whittled the list down to these two models. It tends to get somewhat frustrating when you cannot find ALL the features you like on one model.

The G51 has the LED LCD 1900x1080 display, back light on the keyboard, optional larger battery pack, 4-8GB memory capacity,

G71 has the nicer looking case IMO, larger 17 inch screen, higher memory capacity (6GB-12GB) comes with Blue Ray reader/DVD writer and CCFL LCD panel with 1900x1280 display

Both have dual hard drives, full size keyboard and very similar port configuration.

Since I'll be spending hours a day glued in front of the LCD panel I was just wondering which of these two screens would have better brightness and color saturation. They both appear to handle HD content just fine although the 17 inch screen has a little higher resolution.

I use IPS panels for my desktop computers but so far have not found these on the laptops. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Well the portability argument is not relevant. I saw both today side by side. They are basically the same size. The G51 has a larger bezel to compensate for its smaller screen size. Get the G71 at all costs. You will seriously enjoy the larger screen. It only weighs like a pound more I think, once your at the 8 Pounds of the G51 what does 1 extra one even matter?

1900x resolution is overkill on a 15 inch screen. Looks much better on a bigger screen.

Thank you for the reply. I was just curious where you were able to see both models. No retail outlet that I know of has the new units in stock. I'd love to compare in person before purchasing.

    Thanks!

Well....best buy will usually restock within a week you won't have to wait that long.

Anyways, its really the size and aesthetics that should be determining your choice. While the G51 is big for a 15incher, it is still noticeably smaller than the G71. There isn't a huge difference but there is enough that it may sway your decision if that is a big priority for you.

I would also like to say--since right now I'm both posting on and cleaning up my G50vt-X6 before selling it to a friend--that the G51 keyboard is full of win.

Yes I looked at the Best Buy models. They appeared to come with different LCD displays (1440x900) than the A1 versions. I just want to make sure I'm comparing apples to apples.
