I'm been looking at these two laptops from Asus and I have a couple of questions regarding to them.

How is the G51Vx and G51J different? (on newegg)
I can see that the G51J has DDR3 ram and i7 processor. So I'm guessing it has a different motherboard too then?

Is the temperature issue any better on the G51J compared to the G51Vx?

Personally I'd prefer the G51Vx for its design (the G51J looks like it has some cheap scratch on it)

There seems to be almost a 450$ difference is it worth getting the G51J for 450$ more?

yes, it has a different motherboard. the temperature issue won't be any better as the CPU is hotter and they did nothing to cool the CPU. atm, the G51J is being discontinued, and there are alot of people experiencing BSODs when playing games so my advice would be to stay away.

Th G51JX is replacing it. It has 4 ramslots instead of two, 1 less HDD, and a lower powered GPU.

Is it true that the lower powered GPU should help alleviate some of the heating issues?

it might, depends on how hot the GDDR5 ram will run.

Is the Asus G51JX-A1 worth the 350$ more? Isn't it already available on XoticPC?

iirc its on preorder at all the resellers (gentech/powernotebook/xotic etc) not for sale quite yet. but it depends on your use. if its pure gaming usage, the 350$ is not worth the upgrade, imo, as gaming performance would be worse than the X3A. I have an X1A for sale in my sig if you'd like to check it out. same exact spec as the X3A 'cept comes stock with vista. I have win7 disks tho (from asus)

Haha yea I saw that sale post a while back, I'm considering loll. But right now I'm not even sure if I'll stick with a 15inch laptop. I might consider switching to a 17inch or perhaps a desktop. I'm watching CES 2010 quite closely.

This is going a bit off topic but what are your views on the Alienware M11x and its Nvidia GT335M GPU?

Haha, do you know how the Nvidia's GT335M compares with other GPU? Where is its performance around? A Nvidia GeForce GTS 160M?

Thats not bad, I might consider it. I wonder how far they can go with this new Switchable Graphic Card. I'd love to have a laptop with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 260M and an Intel GMA X4500 with 6 hours of battery life :p
