Hmmm, they could be discontinuing out the low end version completely... maybe Intel is phasing out those chips (and possibly other Penryns).

Well hopefully they still have them by tomorrow. I gotta grab one for my gf or else I'm doomed to pay $400 extra for an AW!

Dude it's funny, she asked me, "can you put those copper sinks on my G60 tomorrow?" LOL! If I can get an extra panel I'll do the hole mod again.

I am so so sick of best buy with their crappy machines! Also with their discontinuation of great and powerful machines, and finally their damn kissing Hp all the time.

I've been waiting 2 weeks for the copper blocks to get here from Taiwan or China it seems. Why doesn't any US resellers stock super low profile pieces of copper? :(

If you wanted to get a 3 year warranty for the Asus, I would consider SquareTrade. I just bought one for $87 from them (and they simply pay out the money if they can not repair or replace). This gives the freedom to push the G60 without worries.

Sooooo my obligitory question-what was the G60VX-RX05, and did it have LED backlighting?

I think I'm going to stop by Best Buy tonight and see what they have in store.

Online the G72Gx-RBBX09 looks pretty great, and the G60Vx-RBBX09 isn't bad either, although it's only dual core.

It as the same thing as the RBBX09 except with a slower processor and 320 GB HDD, I think. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The only three times I've even USED my battery were twice when I forgot to plug in my computer (once last night!), and once at work when we lost power, and I was able to shut down cleanly which was nice.

Shoot. Does this mean that we won't be seeing any cheap refurbs for a while? Do we need to wait for owners of newer Asuses to return their notebooks within the return period so that they can get marked down $200 or more and made into refurbs?

Got one! Had to drive 10 miles out of town to find it. In fact the first one I bought had a scratch on the coating but fortunately I checked it while in the parking lot so I exchanged it right away. They had about 5 left with 1 "optimized" version (they charge $40 extra for basically nothing). These things are low in inventory because most of the BB's around here are out of stock or very low on stock.

Ugh. I hate that "optimized" garbage. I have to PAY them to manhandle my new computer? Uh...no?

First thing I do is swap out to a new drive (so I can keep the original unused in case I have to send it in for repairs), and then reinstall Windows from scratch.

The good thing about the "optimizing" it is that if there is a reason other than DOA or something breaks, they can't charge you a restocking fee since it's already opened.

First thing I would do is calibrate the screen. Turning Gamma down to .75 or lower is a must, then need to adjust the green and blue and increase the red output. Some doses of Digital Vibrance also helps. It still doesn't look nearly as good as my 24" monitor, but it is adequate.

There's probably some kind of product shift/replacement cycle going on. Best bet is that we'll soon be seeing some G60VX's that were returned being turned into refurbished units no more than a month from now.

From my experience with my n80nv Asus doesn't really have much extra junk on it. You can uninstall stuff though or do a clean install with the included discs (at least as far as I know it's basically a 100% clean install-it gives you the option of what drivers and whatnot to include).
