Unfortunately I just got word that the G70 is going to come in a 3 grand from a local PC chain who called Asus directly. Asus said it would be available in mid-june for about 3000.

There goes that option for me. Looks like its a Sager NP5793 or a Asus G2SG for me.

Keep in mind this is in canadian dollars but the exchange rate is about the same with US.

The XPS M1730 and the Alienware m17x are lighter, thinner, cheaper, and better-looking than the G70. Like I've said before, the G70 sucks...

did you just make that up? the V suffix was used to designate Intel 915PM chipset and dedicated graphics card in 2005. There are a lot of letters in the alphabet and I rather doubt that Asus would reuse a suffix letter so soon.

So far, Asus has used the following chipset/graphics suffixes that I remember since 2004/2005:

    N - Intel 855 chipset w/dedicated graphics
    A - Intel 915 chipset w/integrated graphics
    V - Intel 915 chipset w/dedicated graphics
    F - Intel 945 chipset w/integrated graphics
    J - Intel 945 chipset w/dedicated graphics
    E - Intel 965 chipset w/integrated graphics
    S - Intel 965 chipset w/dedicated graphics
    K - AMD chipsets
    T - AMD chipsets

Good question. Why would you make stuff up? Or better yet, if you didn't make it up, where did you get your information? I Google-checked it, and you're the only one on the internet that's said anything about such a model.

lol, the C90S uses Intel 945 chipset w/dedicated and not the 965. God knows they've been doing some funky stuff as of late.

yes well one thing i can say about asus on their laptops is that they make their own chasis, they dont buy from clevo...so have a feeling that it wont be that expensive compared to other gaming laptops

But when you consider the sheer size of the asus, the fact it has altec lansing speakers, an 8 millisecond response lcd display (compared to 25 in the sagers and dell xps), a second smaller lcd display (which is, despite what all of you may think, extremely useful - I have a g1s), is made with brushed aluminum and has more lights than my Christmas tree, I reckon it will be quite a bit more expensive than the competition. Keep in mind that Clevo will hold the title as having the cheapest laptops with the most horsepower for a long time to come :p

That seems like a more reasonable price, but considering prices on the np5793... =/. Well, let's not forget that all asus laptops also come with a standard 2 year warranty, 1 year accidental damage warranty and 30 zero bright dot warranty (but not dead pixels for some reason >_>).

i still dont trust the OP's source. the op himself seems honest, but frankly his source is the type that lies. Whether it be local bestbuy employees or smaller local retailers, the employees and owners often lie when presented with difficult questions. Fact is eddie or ken are pretty much the two major asus sellers in the us, and they havent been giving much great information. this sounds like some guy who wants to sound like he knows stuff just throwing out a number that sounds right for a new 17 inch gaming machine.

Thats because its using the desktop processors, and thus probably the desktop 945 chipset. And since the C90 would be an exception anyways, and the naming scheme is not really fixed or rigid, they figured they'd just throw an S on there since it was being released at the same time as all of their S models.

You must admit, it would have looked really weird to see them release F3S, W7S, G1S, S96S, S37S, G2S, F8S and then suddenly the C90J.

Weeks ago Asus informed us that as of June 1, 2008, they had no plans to bring the $3200 G70S to the US market, though it appears in several places in the June/July Asus catalog. I've seen this sort of thing before: requests for such a beast will come in and possibly coerce Asus into changing their mind on making this model available for the US market. The specs are vague but impressive. The new displays/buttons with blue backlighting make ME want one of these bloody things...and I'm not even a gamer!
