You take the cheapest m1730 ($2399) and add SLI 8800m GTX ($1000)
-
Ok I concede that but with that setup you'll be getting a weaker cpu and only 2GB of ram. I still also believe that the price the review quoted is way off mark for the real entry price in North america for the G70.

only 2 days 14 hours 41 mins 03 seconds left.
It definately has my attension. -
A little bit of a teaser here....
G70 will extend the legacy of both G1S and G2 in terms of exterior... and it will have probably one of the sleekest look out there. -
Thanks to smood for the links - http://www.hispazone.com/Articulo/30...(English).html
Yeh I have to agree - contrary to what others have said about the looks, I actually quite like the new design.. much more so than the G2SG-A1. Id like to think it was Star Wars inspired more than Star Trek- I just hope its in my price range~ and it works well as a DAW

What's up with hinges? It doesn't look particularly strong... Everything else looks great though.

Dual 8700M GT @8.2k 1024x768 3dmark06= ultimate mobile rig? C'mon Asus
-
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
It looks nice, but 1.95" thick (according to Asus's press release) and 11 pounds for an 8700M GT SLI notebook? You'd be better off going with the decently-priced (they'll probably both cost around the same) 1.5" thick 9 pound Alienware M9750 with dual 8700M GTs than this. Or the Dell XPS M1730 or Alienware m17x if you have the money.
-
You thought 2x 8700 GT was less powerful than a single 8800 so I don't think your opinion on any matter holds any real weight.
-
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
lol The 8800M GTX is much more powerful than dual 8700M GTs...
The 8800M GTX gets about 12k-13k at 1024x768 on 3DMark 06, so that's just counting raw power. Most games aren't optimized well for SLI, so you get a huge advantage with an 8800M GTX. -
True. I'd take the 8800M GTX over SLI 8700 anyday..
-
Didn't we just have a full thread proving you wrong and virtually all members of the forum disagreeing with you? Go back to it... you just stopped responding.

I was never proved wrong. You and Hao Bao just thought you were right

-
Rumored to be released in Q3, with the price tag around 1500~2000USD.
-

-
Geared2play.com Company Representative
q3 would be toooo late. by that time you can expect bigger and better and faster and cheaper.
-
Not sure if that's the confirmed shipping date. After all, its only a rumor
.
Are there superior gaming notebooks from other vendors coming out in Q3? -
I hope other colour variants will be available - /.. ok countdown is up on http://event.asus.com/2008/nb/g70/index.htm .. now what - where the hell is it!! let us know when you see on offer.
-
You guys willing to pay $3000? Thats what its going to cost.
-
I really hope it will have an 8800m
-
Mate the wallet always has the last say.. - If its out of range I wont be buying.
-
Vedya why are you hoping, its already confirmed to have 8700 GT SLI not 8800.
-
Something interesting for you guys, I've just been on Asus's website and noticed the M50Sa, as I'm sure the ATI version of the M50 hasn't been on there site yet, anyhows I clicked on the Enlargement icon and the G70s images appeared. Check it out:
http://www.asus.com/prog_content/middle_enlargement.aspx?model=2107
I think this is an error Asus's webadmins part and therefore unsure how long this will be in error or if its an incorrect link! -
Yea.. i used those pics on a new G70 owners' thread I literally just created!

maybe they want to hold out to upgrade the NA model. Thats a possibility too.
Like a 9000 series gpu. -
If you go to the Asus support page you will see drivers and utilities already available from download for the G70 dates May 28. Interesting!

"At the pinnacle of performance in a portable platform, the G70 features not one but two independent Nvidia 8700M GT graphics engines."
So who wants to sue for false advertising? -
Speaking of..
I have read that ASUS has been cheeky in the past.. so has others like Dell:
Dell guilty of fraud and false advertising
Disaster for PC industry's number two.

A court in New York has found Dell guilty of false advertising and fraud.

So apparently Asus revealed the g50 and g71 at computex. The g71 is to be a montevina version of the g70 with 9700m gt's in sli and the g50 is a 15" gaming notebook, also with 9700m gt, although I don't see how they'd fit sli into a 15" notebook (as to the power of these 9700's, that's just speculation for now).
As for a 15" notebook with 8800m gtx (up to 9800m gtx, in fact) and quadcore processor, clevo has just made that a possibility. Personally, I'm most excited about clevo's new 17" model and will probably get that seeing as how it will most likely be infinitely cheaper than the g71 (although I've become extremely used to my g1s-a1's second lcd screen telling me when someone's messaging me while I'm watching movies, not to mention Asus global support is very useful considering my travelling to Europe...). If a system with 9700m gt sli enabled rivals one with a single 8800m gtx and if the prices are similar, I may consider the g71. I'll also wait and see how the new 9800m gtx compares or if nvidia or ati will release anything other than a refresh of their old cards in the near future. One primary thing that the new clevo has over the g71, is upgradability, I think. Even if I buy a weaker gpu and cpu now and nvidia does release their new cards and nehalem ends up being infinitely better than montevina, I can always just ship my notebook off to sager or xoticpc (depending on where I buy it) and upgrade it. Well, to each their own. The g70's looks with all the lights may in fact be troublesome and distracting when gaming / watching movies, so for me that's a non-issue. I'd actually prefer something that doesn't scream "steal me!"
. Besides, reviews have already said how the lcd latches are very weak and the screen has a lot of flex, as compared to the extremely sturdy build of current generation clevo machines.

Hello, I will have a g70 on 18-06. I have two questions.
1- The Asus g70 have an exceptionaly cooler system, whith two fans....ok, I was wondering if i could make a better overclocking than other laptop, for example Asus G2sg??
2- The SLI sistem, can i upgrade the graphics cards in a future??? <how and where?
Thank you, and excuse for my english, I´m from Spain -
Zenckers can you please post pictures of your G70? You can use www.photobucket.com to upload them. Also how much did you pay for it?
-
2. You may not be able to upgrade the graphics card in the future, unless you can purchase MXM2 graphics module. -
2 - Probably not, Asus usally doesn't uses MXM graphic cards and solder the GPUS directly to the mainboard. -
As for overclocking laptops, that wouldn't be a new innovation. Gateway has made laptops with a "turbo" button before which overclocked it; and I hear that the g70 has some sort of a "turbo" function, but it's unclear whether this is simply something like "high performance" on power4gear or actual overclocking.
-
Ok, my brother have a G2sg and he can reach a 6400 3dmark points, 1000 points more than the standard configuration, and haven´t any problem. For this, i think that this laptops can reach 9500 with this excelent cooler sistem!
I Paid for this Laptop 2300 Euros -
zenckers feo xD, regalame el g70 :_.
Well i have seen in some webs that g70 have options in the BIOS to Overclocking cpu but i´m not sure, and with this cooling system I think that you will can make more overclock that in a g2sg...
(pero no quedara tan chulo como mi g1s-bonito-con-peltier-pegada-al-teclao xDDD) -
The G71V might be something to consider to.
(single 9700GT instead of two 8700GT) - God knows how much or when its getting released. -
