Hi there! I have an Asus G71g-A1 and everything runs great. But recently the GPU temp when it's idle is 65°-70° C and when playing it gets to 90°-95°!(measured with Everest). I remember it didn't got that hot normally, even when playing Crysis and such. I am using Windows 7 RC and updated the drivers to the latest (186.03). In vista there's no difference. I also clean the fan with regularity so it gets a good air flow . Are those normal idle temps? Should I worry? If they are high, what should I check to get a nomal temp? Thanks in advance

    That's quite normal.

I've got a G50 with a slightly worse GPU getting 90-94c load temperatures.

Thanks, I think I'll buy a cooler fan or something :p . Don't you worry that the lifespan of you laptop will decrease because the heat?

Any other option? If I put some thermal paste will it help? Is there some driver o something I need to download?

65-70 idle seems too high for a 9800m GS. What's your ambient temperature?

For a 9800m gs those temps are waaaaay too high dudeman. My old g50 used to idle the gpu at 42c and max temp was 87F

For such a cool ambient temperature (do you live in a fridge?) those temperatures are much too high.

Have you done anything involving the heatsink?

Jesus Christ, 12-15*C? It's 27*C at my place and my load temps are lower than your idle temps.

You need to get some new thermal paste on that GPU on the double.

With some thermal paste will the problem be solved? What should be a normal idle temp?

It should shave a few degrees off if you have not replaced the current paste in a long time.

I have like 6 months with this laptop. Do you know why I have this problem? I remember having normal idle temps and when playing crysis it went to 80°C max.

I would assume your speedstep isn't functioning if you are getting such high idle temps and same temps on battery. Try to install a new driver and see if speedstep works and as others have suggested put some fresh thermal compound on the chip and make sure the heatsink is properly seated.
Test thoroughly using HWmonitor to check temps and ATI tool to stress test the card.

A small chance is that your fan unit went bad.

Now I use de DOX drivers 185.xx and my idle temps are 60°C. Is this good or should I get a fan or thermal paste or something?

Max temperature for the CPU is ~69ºC and the GPU is ~88-90ºC or so from what I've seen. I do not use a cooler, and I have the G71-RX05, not the G71g-A1.

Are there problem if the gpu is in that temp most of the time? I mean, will it break or something with time if those temps continue?

Hi there again, I think the problem is the fan. I can notice a difference in heat exhaust comparing it to how it felt some months ago. Is there some fan I can buy to replace this one and see if that is the problem?

Have you checked your vents for dust blockage? That could be choking the heat exhaust port.

I have cleaned it with a powerful air compressor, it is the same, there was no obstruction. A little dirty but not even a dust bunny :p I also disconnected the fan when it was in idle. No temp change. I think somehow the fan is not bowing out the hot air in the heat sink. Any recomendations?

Hi there again! I've open the back of the laptop and cleaned the fan and the heat sink. It exhausts hot air now, but the temps are still very high, what should I do next?

i idle around 50 for CPU and 63 for GPU but when under stress, i get about 101* sustained (102 max) on Furmark

zenil- is the fan even blowing air AT ALL?

Yes the fan works and it blows air, but not as it should. Btw, the heat sink is clean, so i don't think dust bunnies are the problem here :p

GPU {idle:65°C max: 95°C } CPU {idle:55°C max 70°C}]I'm using everest to measure the temps.
Taking the back off, the temps decrease 10°C
