I believe I read on here somewhere that it will come with a Drivers CD that includes the Asus Software on it also. Which would have... Turbo Gear is it? the one that overclocks. Someone with more knowledge on the subject should probably verify for you though :)

What is overclock and does it wear down your pc if you use that turbo mode thing?

Not hard at all. The driver disk that came with your laptop has all the 64bit drivers included, so it would run without any issues. The software for overclocking the G71G is power4gear.

Any type of overclocking will stress your hardware since it's running at higher temps. However, the G71G runs pretty cool and i wouldn't worry too much ;)

Use EVEREST to monitor your temps. If you CPU hoovers around 70C during load, then it should be fine. Your CPU can withstand temps 100C+.

You can nuke all of the partitions when you do the re-install (instead of doing an in-place upgrade which isn't all that clean anyway). That's actually what I did with mine (with Vista Ultimate). I actually used the drivers from their web site as well as video drivers from laptopvideo2go (be warned, the wireless drivers on their web site are incorrect - those you either need off of the cd or to search for).

The overclocking, hotkey and OLED software all work fine. Since then I've actually uninstalled DirectConsole and started using LCDHype instead (DirectConsole was unreliable for updating the CPU utilization and was causing Outlook to not close).

You should be able to resize them directly within vista. Not so much "merging" as moving all of the files from one partition to the other, deleting the second partition and then growing the first to fill the disk.

gparted is a linux livecd that will also do it but it's not neaarly as friendly.

Arconis has free (15 or 30 day trial) software for merging partitions.
