I got mine today and Device Manager says it has a 9800 GT, not the GS. Is that what everyone else got?
-
on the sticker or in the System Hardware?
-
it is common that the system recognize a component as a very similar one. and asus isn't nice/dumb enough to upgrade your laptop for free.
-
It can even be the driver doesn't have a name for GS in the file, so the driver just display the name as GT.
I don't have one, so I don't know. It's possible. I haven't seen a screenshot of 9800 GS in device manager yet. -
the sticker says GS but the device manager says GT, maybe it's the driver not up to date
-
interesting. i'm going to try and boot mine tonight to confirm. would be SWEET were it a GT.
are you still stock? or did you install laptop2go drivers? -
If it's really GT and confirmed with benchmarks, then I would buy it.
Can someone do some benchies? I can't believe no one did it yet.
I did mine for m17 in few hrs after i got it for the public to see. -
Its not a 9800M GT. Its just the 9800M GS isnt recognized as it is relatively new so they link it with a close cousin; 9800M GT.
-
^ must be so.
NVidia don't even have "official" drivers for the GS yet. curious they'd have a shipping product without drivers ... -
what else could i look at to confirm the card?
-
I'm thinking about the model and that would prob push me over the edge. Please post what you find.
You all think the 800Mhz memory is a big deal? Most of the newer models come w/ Faster RAM.
Is any of the 6GB RAM the Intel Turbo Boost or whateverthehell it's called? -
There is literally no noticable difference between the RAM speeds really. it comes out to less than 0.3% difference between 800Hz and 1333Hz. dont worry about that mate.
my g71g - a2 has been in shipment for over a week but its not surprising since its coming from the US to CEE. Im just praying it arrives soon... -
The 6GB is all RAM (3 2GB modules), none of it is the flash "Turbo Memory".
-
where did you order from? I got it in 3 days from newegg. Xotic told me it takes at least week to ship even for overnight -
.
it went quite smoothly but Ive been nervous as hell about it as I have never done it before. Im reaching my wits end about this shipment though.
The shipment went from Lincoln to Omaha and then left the US from Chicago in less than 24 hours. That update was last wednesday, the tracking was very good for those 24 hours but since there has been no update on the tracking information.
I dont know what the process is supposed to be like but I think Im getting gray hairs about this.
Please try calm my nerves -
***Just kidding ^^
This is a fine laptop... so the difference between a 6GB DDR2 of RAM and a 6GB DDR3 of it is not that much???? -
I will help you anyways
I had the exact same worries as you but then I found this article, it is real world benchmarks and tell me if those differences are ever going to affect you in this lifetime.
edit: this link is better
http://ixbtlabs.com/articles3/cpu/ddr2-800-vs-ddr3-1333.html
2nd edit:
I forgot to mention, those differences were measured on overly powerful quadcore processors. I can almost guarantee you that there will be literally 0 difference between the rams in the case of any laptops really, especially this duo core. -
and some other benchies will help too. -
How do they have build time when they don't build it? I bought mine in the box from Asus. They built it and shipped it to the distributor -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
-
Im feeling a bit better now though, thanks mate. hopefully it wont be long now -
Put in my order today - just gotta mail in teh check and wait for that clearing and then shipping and then....I'll have that puppy in my hands.
