Hi. I am from Portugal and altough I´ve consulted this forum before, it´s my first post here.

I bought an G71v laptop 2 weeks ago.

    It´s specs are:

    Processor:

    T9400
    4gb DDR3 1066 RAM
    640gb dual HDD (2x320) 5400rpm
    Vista Ultimate 32bits...
    Geforce 9700M GT 512DDR3
And the normal stuff in this laptops

    The thing is:

I unwrapped it, plugged it in, and followed Vista´s orders, created an account and waited for the "asus utilities instalation"

It rebooted as supposed and everything seemed normal.
But it was not. Every time I changed (or tried to) the performance modes in the ROG key (or by the programs list), I got the BLUE SCREEN.
    I returned to the store.
After performing MEM Test, THe called me saying that It´s memorys were defective. So, I got a new one.

Did the same process with the new one, so I went to try the performance modes by using tha Direct Console 2.0 that came with it.

As soon as I changed from normal to TURBO ou TURBO EXTREME modes, and doubled clicked OK, it rebooted. It kept rebooting. Except this time without any Blue Screen. Just plain black reboot. Did uninstalls, reinstalled DC2.0, recovered VISTA by the partition, and the CD and no success.

I contacted my store and they picked this new one up and according to them there is at least another costumer who complaint about the same problem.

So they started testing the hardware and opposite to the first one, this one has no Hardware problems at all and it actually prooved to be a great machine.
They have sent the "reports" to ASUS so that they can give us an answer.

Did any of you guys have experienced this problem?
I believe it to be related with some malfunction or bug in the Direct Console, since all hardware parts are fine.

I really loved it, cause of its quality, and looks and feels.

My BIOS is the latest 206 as it came factory default.

In the ASUS site there is little or no support at all and to be honest I thought it woud be better. Not to mention the forum wich seems pretty useless since no technicians actually look into it.

I aprecciate any help and congrats on this great Forum.
PS: Sorry for my english, but hope tou can understand this cry for help.

Your english is great so no problem there. You are only the second on the forum who has received the machine yet so I dont think no one can help you at this point. A bit scary with all the faults though..

Yeah... Same problem here in Portugal. Lot´s of people have the G50, and they seem to bew quite happy and don´t have the issues i´ve read about in here. Like the keyboard lag. No problems here.

After some "investigation" in 50 or so G71 laptops that were already sold, Me and some other guy are tho only ones who have complaints.
And ASUS Iberia (portugal and Spain) claims to have sold 750 machines...
They told me they were working on it, so I´ll have to wait... And...I can´t see the moment to have it in my hands again. cause it´s the best laptop I´ve seen in years. Superb finnish and superb materials.

If you need some kind of information on the machine, i´ll help you out ;)

    Thanks for the help

The direct console on ma g71v works fine, I change all of the settings a few times a day without any problems. My only problem was the keyboard lag, which I fixed in a minute thanks to this forum's search function! So I'm loving the machine (I just discovered that the remote fits inside the computer. That's so awesome!)

Hey... mine didn´t come with the tv receiver or the remote.
The remote is supposed to fit inside the PCMCIA port right?
And has the shape similar to a T?

Could you post the version of your G71v?
Do you confirm that your BIOS is the 206?
    And ít´s specs?

    Thanks

They do have Direct Console 2.05 you can try to see if it fix the problem:

How did you solve the keylag? Was it by disabling the touchpad? This is important to know for the future; for sure other people will develop the problem, and it's good to know that there is a solution, and what that solution is. :)

The first solution in this thread helped me with the keyboard problem

I don't have the TV tuner either, but I have the computer's remote that fits in the PCI slot and is used to control the media center and other multimedia apps. And it's quite useful I reckon.

I think you should. I mean, the possibility of beeing able to change the CPU clock is one of the features on this laptop so... if it doesn´t work, you can think of it as a flaw or a major issue, since it´s suposed to be fully operational.

Unplug your laptop and remove the battery for a few minutes. Then put back the battery and plug it back in and try again.

Probably a power supply issue. You should probably take it to a repair shop or RMA it if your warranty is still valid.
