I've read many threads here on coolers for Asus laptops that run hot. I wasn't sure what to get and decided to try a Logitech Cooling pad N100 to check it out. It's super quiet and works fairly well...but I'm not sure if I need something stronger? Yesterday, my laptop was on for about 10 hours - not gaming - but normal stuff like the internet, iTunes, Youtube, etc. and by the 9th hour, I checked the laptop temps and it was running anywhere from 47-54C. Changing that to Farenheit, that's HOT.
So can those of you with this model type (or similar) recommend a tried/true cooler or is this one working okay/are those temps okay? I just feel like if the laptop was running so warm/hot doing basic stuff, I'm afraid of how hot it'll get when I run a game.
Thanks!![]()

47-54C is extremely cool for a laptop when now a days the normal under load is 85-90C.... What program where you using to messure your temps and is that your CPU or GPU temps... CPU Temps run cooler than GPU temps.
-
I used RealTemp and Core Temp - both measured around the same, with maybe a difference of 1-2 degrees Celsius. The higher end (56-59) was the GPU temp. -
56-59C for a GPU is really cool those are awesome temps for just everyday use like that... when gaming if you get above like 92-95c, then you should have cause to worry.
-
What do you use? -
I use a thermaltake CN23... but im gonna be modifying it to increase my CFM.
-
-
its an actual cooler with a 200mm fan that only moves like 50CFM..
-
I'm also looking at the Zalman NC2000 or the Cryo LX. I just checked my GPU temps again and it's 56C, and the laptop has only been on 2 hours - iTunes, internet, and that's it. To me, that's warm and I can feel heat coming up through the keyboard as I type.Attached Files:

Anybody else have any suggestions on a cooler for this laptop?

My vote is for the Cryo NZXT Lx! My laptop runs pretty cool with it.
You could also check out the Enermax Aeolus CP001-G. It looks pretty awesome. Someone on this forum actually picked one up.

I just put in the order...can't wait! Hope it does the trick. Thanks again for your excellent help.

Let me know how well it cools your laptop. Would be interested to see another HWMonitor screenshot.

IMO, the best cooler is always a custom built one. Will be more powerful, and can have more effective fan placement, for less than the cost of buying a pre-made one. Doesn't take much tech know-how either.
-
The FedEx order tracker says my Enermax Aeolus CP001-B Aluminum Notebook Cooler has been delivered today! Admittedly, my Logitech fan has been working just fine, but I'll try the new fan and see how it goes.
With the Logitech fan, the GPU - after about 3 hours of regular internet use - is at 56C. I hope the Cryo can keep it much cooler. -
Gratz, but dont be suprised if it only cools you down like 2-4c
-

No, just that alot of people have high expectations when they hear the word "cooling" when it comes to heat control for computers and computer parts. I am happy that you found something that you liked, dont get me wrong, just dont want you to be upset when it turns out to only be a few degrees celcius it drops, and not like 10c you probably are hoping/expecting.
EDIT: maybe its my military training that has me prepare for the worst, hope for the best. who knows.... -
I would not get a cooler if I were you. There are basically pointless since Asus designed the laptop to run this way, so its totally safe..you don't see anyone reporting BSODs or anything of that sort on their G72s. The palm rests don't even get remotely uncomfortable too.
Also the coolers are just "ugly" looking to look at. Plus they are notorious for dying after about 6 months of daily use.
Basically if you are not a "hard-core" gamer than needs the extra air flow for overclocking to get that extra 5 frames per second, you are just wasting your money. -
mylowrider - I did buy this laptop specifically to be able to play games, so I feel that I will need a cooler.
However, here's my brief summary on this particular one that I just received in the mail: Enermax Aeolus CP001-B Aluminum Notebook Cooler
One word: Disappointing.
The fan is too small in the base for this particular laptop model. You end up not being able to use the wrist rest because your laptop has to sit on top of it. The fan is definitely VERY quiet, to the point that I couldn't even tell that it's on, but I also can't feel that much air coming out of it. According to Core Temp, though, the temperature of my laptop is at 36C just by turning it on - same as when I was using the Logitech fan. So this is not a huge drop in temps.
Also, the USB plug is awkwardly placed and the USB head doesn't quite fit in right. I don't know if this is a defect of the item, or it's just how the brand is made, but it rather sucks. Furthermore, the fan does not have a base covering it, so there's no way you could even think of placing this on your lap; you'd have to keep this sitting on a desk, which defeats the purpose of a "lap"top. And, this item didn't even come with ANY instructions, so it was a matter of turning it over 5-6 times to figure out how to make it work.
It has a LED light, but who really cares about that. I would keep it turned off if I were to keep the fan, but I'm not. I'm returning it, mainly because it's not making a huge difference in temps, and also because the size is all wrong - contrary to what one other user who bought the same fan seemed to believe on this forum. My laptop is all wobbly on top of it, and to me, that's not the right size.
Back it goes.
Oh well. -
Just live with what you got...I mean the 260M GTX is equivalent to a desktop 9800GT so its obviously not going to play the lastest and greatest and the highest possible settings. And overclocking a laptop won't do much to benefit you in games anyway.
-
Tim4 seems to like his Enermax Aeolus. As I said before I have an NZXT Cryo LX, which I love. I do game on my laptop but don't use either the touchpad or the laptop keyboard. I have the laptop on my cooler and a usb keyboard and the razer mouse hooked to it, along with my second monitor. It effectively makes the laptop my DTR/primary monitor. I don't think the point of the cooler is to move around a lot personally. When I want to game away from my desk I use the laptop without the cooler. The temps are a little higher but not excessively so. Also a 2-4C drop is nothing to laugh at, thats a pretty significant drop in temps.
-
i havent tried this one but i really want it but i heard NZXT Cryo LX is the best... like it has 3 120mm fans and it might be big and bit pricey but i heard is the best one
-
Well, I tested both coolers last night: The Logitech and the Aeolus.
The temps were 3-4C cooler on the Logitech, kid you not. Isn't that odd? You'd think a fancy cooler would be better.
I did finally do some gaming on the laptop last night - nothing huge, along the lines of WoW and the Logitech kept the laptop at 39C. Not bad!
If I find I have issues with heat later on, I may try the NZXT Cryo next. I thought it was worth a try to do the Aeolus (and it looked cool in pictures), but personally, it has too many -ve's to justify keeping it.
For now, the Logitech N100 is fine. -
Alot of times companies will market "flashy" things that will get the attention of the tech nerds without realizing the specs are next to nothing. I believe, and I may be wrong, but have a strong suspicion this may have been the case with this cooler
I do applogize for your purchase holly. EIement suggested and I truely also believe that a homemade cooler is the best bet there is as you pick what you want and you know what your going to be getting.
-
I wouldn't even begin to consider a home-made cooler by me...I'm not that mechanically inclined.
It's all good, I like my current cooler.
But I wish I'd purchased this item from Amazon - at least they don't charge return shipping. Buy.com however, does, and so I'll not be buying from them again.
Live and learn! -
i use this on my g71 which has the same bottom casing and ventilation system as yours. and my idle temps on my gpu drop from about 60c to 55c with it on low. its not too much money either. on high it can get it even lower, but its loud on high.

you just sit the butt end of your laptop on the little rubber nubs on top of it, then those fans pull down cool air and send it along the bottom of the laptop. so along with elevating the bottom, it ventilates it. only problem i saw with it was kinda funny, the heat vent from the g71 blows out right over the right vent, and it sucks a bunch of that hot air back down, but more thatn 70 percent of the air that fan gets is fresh so its all good.
-
Hmmm, interesting. I think with something like that, I'd like to see it in person first before I purchase it. Wonder if any local stores carry it - possibly not. It's amazing how many stores DON'T carry computer accessories..even some of the most basic stuff like various types of laptop desks, etc.

sorry for the late post, just found your thread. Actually I have CP-001G not B. Pic posted below.
There is no such huge palm rest and thats why my laptop feets it great as it's rubber feets were designed for that cooler. I am idling at 33C CPU 50C GPU. In games max I've ever seen is 52C CPU and 85C GPU overclocked(mostly stays withing 80-82C range in demanding games). Your internet brousing temps are bit higher than 53C because GPU also helps to display web pages.(espessialy those that have many flash animation). So 53-54C is normal. To avoid GPU runing on high ferquencies while browsing, just switch your powerplan to Asus power saving. Also you will notice some increase during movie watching. I think that you have nothing to worry about. Once you are lower that 90C you are safe!
@ mylowrider About GPU performance. I'd doubt your post. Not every gamer have high end graphic card and CPU. Game desingners know that, so they are making games that are capable to run on high settings on average priced hardware. What's the intrest to play good games on everything low?
GTX 260M is capable to run most games on high on native res. I played Dirt 2, Dragon age, Crysis warhead, NFS shift and Borderlands on 1600*900 and only in crysis some settings was on middle. All the other run smooth on high. This laptop will be capable to run most games in coming 1.5-2 years.
Just finished gaming performance review. Take a look -
Wonder if I'd have liked the one you have. But I sent the one from Buy.com back already and I'll just settle for Logitech...until I need further cooling.
And you know, I thought I'd be thrilled with the LED blue lights...I like lights...but they actually hurt my eyes, esp. when I worked in the dark (which is often).
Thanks for clarifying that, Tim. I appreciate the input from you and everyone else who's been so helpful on this thread. -
-
Do they even sell this model anymore? Do you have any pictures of your laptop with this cooler? -
-
I'm pretty sure you're worrying too much about your laptop. My old 8600M GT used to idle at 73 Celsius and run up to 106 under stress, and people told me it was normal. 50-60 Celsius is honestly nothing.
-
Thanks guys/gals.
I've been doing okay with the Logitech N100 so far and my laptop stays around 40C (CPU, GPU is higher, around 56 I think). So far, so good...but I haven't overclocked it yet.
Buy.com finally returned my money for the Aeolus fan that didn't fit. But so far, things are okay. -
hi hello i am nick i have the Asus G72 from best buy and right now im not even playing a game either and my GPU TEMP is 60 C and i have the Note Pal X2 COOler master ; ( idk if its doing anything! please tell me what to use for this lap top u know not many holes on bottom so need a good fan.. i just dont think this cooler is doing anything at all!!
