I traded in my old Asus G71GX-RX05 at Bestbuy to and got the new G72. I have a small question regarding the laptop:
How do I control the "headlights" on the laptop that I could on my G71 by using Direct Console 2.0?
-
-
I don't think you can control the lights. I asked this question and one person said to take off the lid and unplug them - lol
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
That counts as controlling the lights to me.
-
No lol there are two led lights at the front of the laptop, under where your wrists are when you are typing. There are 2 lights in each corner, well i think they are lights, because the ASUS G71 had the same design.... if anybody could help me figure out how to turn them on i would greatly appreciate it

After seeing tons of pictures of the G72GX and at Best Buy... maybe they just aren't in the laptop. I mean, visually it looks like it does but maybe they are non-existent. Look at the G71GX-RX05, everyone thought it might have the small OLED display that the G71G had, especially since it got especially hot in that area of the G71GX but we came to find out it doesn't exist and Direct Console didn't give us an option to even fiddle with it. Maybe it's the same as the G72GX, looks like it's there when it really isn't. Don't take my word for it though, Asus would most likely know, I'm merely taking a stab at this as I don't see an option either for the G72GX.
I fiddled with the G72GX at Best Buy today to get my answer above, was there to pick up Borderlands
! Awesome Game!

How was the G71GX-RX05? im thinking about getting it ;o
-
Those aren't lights, they are just divots in the design.
I just shined a light at them and there was a reflection as to them being lights. -
Oh, thats unfortunate...i really liked those little lights at nightime. It really added to the uniquness of the laptop. Oh well, at least the g72 has the chiclet backlit keyboard. Also, i have another question- Does the g72 still have the GPU underclocking when the GPU hits a certain tempurature? I think i just experienced this problem when my FPS dropped substantially in MW2
-
The GPU comes underclocked from ASUS.
The true numbers are floating around here in one of these threads. -
The G71 never had this issue after the bios update of 1201 and the G72 most likely doesn't have the issue either, otherwise people would have mentioned it on the forum by now and in the reviews. I remember the G71 downclocking issue before the 1201 bios, about 20+ bad reviews, 30+ forum pages of people crying about it. Good thing the G71 got the 1201 bios shortly after a month, otherwise they would have lost sales badly (and I'd own the G51VX)...
So to answer your question, NO, the downclocking issue is not apparent on the G72 as no one has reported so thus far. You losing frames on MW2 is most likely due to other factors in your computer (virus, unstable overclock, DDR timings, ect.), so who really knows... -
no,the bios update did not fix the issue completley. If you put the g71 and g72 into sleep mode, and upon awake, the gpu will still underclock after hitting a specific temperature. In order to prevent the gpu from underclocking, you must do a full restart. It bothers me because i can never put my computer to sleep and expect to play a game shortly afterwards

I had the G71 and now have the G72 and they both will do this. It is completely random, but seems to happen more if you use the laptop for a while then go into a game. you will go from 60fps to 5fps. The only fix for it is to restart.
The one issue I have that the G71 didn't was the Turbo gear over clock. If you set the over clock on, you will start getting the "rubber band" effect in games. Specifically this is happening in AION. If you turn the overclock to standard, it stops. Not really sure why this is happening, but it is kinda disappointing that I can't overclock anymore. -
What do mean by "rubber band effect"?
