This is how I feel right now...

I've spent the past 1.5 hours trying to figure this out and I haven't succeeded.

I have an Asus G72Gx-RBBX09 with an HDMI output. I have a standard tv (not HDTV) with RCA composite inputs (the yellow, red and white inputs) and a USB input. The tv manual says about the USB input : Storing, sharing and transporting data is simplified by a USB Interface, which provides simple multimedia playback of mass storage classification devices plays JPEG, WMA, MP3 and (unencripted) DivX.

The link to the tv manual is here.

Is there any way to connect my Asus laptop to my tv to watch movies? What type of cable do I need to do so, if possible?

    Thanks. :)

Well from that I would take that it can play some video files direct from a usb device as long as they are the right kind of DivX files.

however hooking up directly to a usb port on your computer and trying to play any files off of your hard drive is probably wishful thinking.

does that laptop have a vga port? If so converters to RCA aren't terribly expensive. HDMI to RCA converters however are quite epxensive.

Honestly though I'm a little curious as to why this is even a concern for you, I'd rather watch videos on a 17" led 1600 x 900 lcd then a SD 24" tube

No, don't think that the laptop has a VGA port.
