Hello! I have seached this forum and so far have not found a fix for my internal m,ic not working. The pc knows its there bit it does not work, if someone could help me troubleshoot the problem here it would be great. Because either I am missing something or the mic is actually broken.

Which version of Windows are you running? Is it set as the default device in Recording devices?

Please try updating the Realtek Audio driver to the latest version from www.station-drivers.com. Note that multiple reboots are required. -

If problem persists, try another version here.
It's possible that your OS is not running well due to the fact that it was upgraded from an older OS.
So the last thing we are going to try is to do a system reset (without losing files).
Tutorial is available here. -
and report back when something happens XD

The shop offered 7-days replace warranty so I took it back. On Thursday I got another one, same model, different serial number. Same problem with the microphone. Then, I recalled that the first one had trouble even with an external microphone (which at first I thought was due to the combined jack). All this suggests a software problem. People on the internet complain about microphone problems with Windows 10, although not necessarily on Asus.
My Audio driver is the most recent 2.79 from Realtek. Updating it makes no difference. I even downloaded the 2.79 driver and updated explicitly, but of cause it made no difference.
The interesting part is that I got another Asus Laptop from 4 years ago. It's the one with Nvidia 840, which I upgraded to Windows 10. The microphone works great on it (and the loudspeaker has improved a lot under Windows 10). This old laptop runs an older version of the Realtek HD Audio driver. I can't tell the version, because installed drivers show a different numbering (like 6.1.0, etc). That driver is dated 2014.
My next move will be to try various earlier versions of the Realtek Audio driver, from:
http://filehippo.com/download_realtek_high_definition_audio_vista_64/history/
The technical notes suggest that support for Windows 10 started with version 2.74
If you want to try, we can compare notes. I also raised a service request with Asus. -

I just uninstalled it (the new 7738 version you suggested). After one more reboot, the system reinstalled automatically the 6.0.1.7620 version which came with the machine.
Next, I intend to try the R2.8x WHQL versions for station-drivers
I can most likely get my cash back, given the strong consumer protection laws we have in Australia. Trouble is, I still need a laptop. My criteria are:
8Gb Ram + Video Card.
The ASUS F555UJ-XO050T came at a good price at $A752. For a similar machine, Dell charges $A1300 and I'm not convinced it is much better. Although Dell would be extra careful to ensure the machine works out of the box.
Not sure what other brands are worth looking at. -

You should have done two (2) reboots to have a fully functional Realtek driver suite.
Can you also increase the mic boost under its properties? -
I certainly followd the "reboot twice" protocol. After each cycle of two reboots, I checked the version of the driver and its release date. This way, I built a table which shows the correspondence between external numbering like 2.78 and driver version like 6.0.1.7023 or such.
This also serves like a journal of my own actions and the results each time. As as it stands now, only ghe factory-supplied 6.0.1.7620 can produce any sound, but none of them makes the microphone work. -

Yeah, the microphone volume came at around 85% which I pushed up to 100%. There is also a boost at 20% which I shifted up to 30% (maximum). I also checked the usual suspects: turned Noise Cancellation off and on, plus the other options.
The only setting which seems to have any effect is increasing the boost to 30%. At the default 20%, the microphone is completely deaf. At the maximum 30%, the microphone shows one-two gradations when I hold my mobile's loudspeaker next to it playing load music.
I bought it from a technical-minded shop. They tested it for a whole day, before giving me another one. So that's a second opinion, from people who deal with faulty computers all day long.
I'm now taking a break for half a day, before trying external microphones. I strongly suspect it's the driver, i.e. hardware not working well with software. -
